“Good stay for USF”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2011

There's a difference between older hotels that are worn but maintained, and those that are just worn out. Happily, this one fell into the first category. This is not a brand sparkling new hotel or a Four Seasons. But for the price and location (I walked onto the USF campus in less than 10 minutes) were just right. Yes, the TV was a bit old and the fixtures were a bit dated, and there were the usual scruffs and bumps, but overall I felt it was clean and safe.

“What a shame this hotel has declined to the point of where it is today!”

My brother and I have stayed at this hotel last Christmas, Easter week and this Thanksgiving. It was nice last Christmas, nice staff, clean rooms and nice breakfast arrangement. But, this time the room was dirty, the air was not working properly and there was a noise coming from the walls that kept waking us up during the night more than once. We kept complaining but all they wanted to do was move us. We had already unpacked for the whole week and had our dogs with us as well. We didn't want to move. When the noise would start so loud we would call the front desk and ask them to listen because it only lasted long enough to wake us up and then shut off. Everyone (3) different staff members heard this over the phone. The second day they sent up a repair man to ask what was wrong. I told him that I had no idea, I didn't do home repairs, just knew a noise was coming out of the wall. It was like a jack hammer in the street. I ask the maid in the room across is she had heard it and he immediately cut me off and said "oh she only speaks Spanish". I said well, it might help if people were to speak English since everyone there I saw and spoke to who were staying were English. She had no problem saying hello? Then he ask me what is wrong, I said I have no idea I am not a repair man and do not know your systems here. He said well I can't fix it if I don't know what is wrong. I said sleep in the next room tonight and you will hear what is wrong. This went on for 4 of the 6 nights we were there and it finally stopped and I have no idea how it got fixed or if it just stopped on its own. Management of these hotels use to really care how clients felt and enjoyed their stay. We always stayed there since they have no problem with pets. But, now that so many other hotels are taking pets I am about finished with this hotel chain and it is quite a shame. I am a Gold member here and have accumulated a lot of points towards free rooms. But, it is not enjoyable and if you can't sleep then those points mean nothing! I would look into other hotels and we will be doing that ourselves!

“Just an OK hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

I dont have any serious complaints about the hotel, it was clean enough. The staff seems friendly and pleasant. I do think that compared to other LaQuintas I have stayed at that this one is overpriced. There is nothing any different here than the others to justify the higher prices. Considering that there are other LaQuintas just across the bay for lots less cost, I probably wouldnt stay here again

“Great Economical Stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2010

I am almost afraid to write this review because I don't want to have a hard time booking this hotel in the future. During a most emotional time, I decided to stay here to leave my daughter at USF. We had stayed at hotels next door and across the street when we had visited before she committed to USF. I booked the La Quinta because of the price (since I am now penny pinching not only because of college tuition, but we travel from Chicago, so it is also out-of-state tution.) I needed to find ways to make visits economical. I found that the amenities far exceeded the other hotels. I arrived late at night, and a security guard came to see if I needed help getting all my luggage out of my economy size car. EVERYONE from check-in, to housekeeping, to the breakfast workers were wonderful!! My room was awesome! It was large, had a wonderful bathroom. The one thing I truly appreciated since I was walking in alone later at night, was that there was a light on in the room. I truly felt welcomed. I can be picky, but I am so happy to find a clean, well-appointed hotel with wonderful employees to spend my nights when I come to visit my daughter! The other hotels are wonderful, but they come at a much higher price! I love this hotel and since I am from the midwest, it is wonderful to be able to open the windows for fresh air! The pool and atrium area around it are great. I'm booked to be back next weekend for Family Weekend! I'm so looking forward to it because I know I will be stay at La Quinta!

“Look Elsewhere”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2010

Upon reading some reviews I felt confident that this hotel would fit our needs. We were moving our son into USF (which is right across the street) and my other children were visiting Busch Gardens (around the corner). Before I give this hotel a completely bad rating the only good thing I have to say about it was that the front desk was extremely professional and tried their best to help with our situation. The first room we were given upon check-in, the air conditioning did not work, we let the front desk know and our room was changed. The second room we were given ended up having an infestation of ants. They gave us a third room and as we were walking in a large bug ran across the carpet. That was it, we were out of there. The front desk was extremely apologetic, refunded our one night stay and was professional under the circumstances. I was not expecting a fancy hotel, just clean, unfortunately we won't be giving the hotel any more chances, there was a very nice hotel next door, that took us in very late that night. Be aware that there is no shuttle service and after checking in to the other hotel that was included.
