There are several ESA properties with Tampa airport in their name so confusion is possible.
I stayed at the 4312 W Spruce Street property for seven nights in November 2010. It’s basically a rooming house for long stay self-catering guests, not a conventional hotel. There are none of the usual hotel facilities such as restaurant, daily maid services, breakfast room or pool. Just rooms with basic self-catering facilities. There was no breakfast served, as mentioned in another review, though other nearby ESA properties do offer them.
I was disappointed with the room as it didn’t live up to either the description or photo’s on the ESA website. The room was adequate but I was led to expect more. The website says the rooms feature “fully-equipped kitchens and plenty of work space.” There were two small tables, one by the bedside with a chair with a table lamp doubling as a bedside table and another with chair by the kitchen as a dining table. Not plenty of working space in my opinion and when a laptop was in use there was hardly any space for anything else.
The ‘fully fitted’ kitchen came with one saucepan, one plastic serving spoon, one large spoon and two each of knife, fork and tea plus a small plastic handled serrated knife, plus a can opener.
Dishes: two dinner plates, two small plates, two small bowls, two mugs and two plastic beakers. A plastic colander and cutlery draining tray completed the set. No wine glasses or wine opener. There were two dish cloths but no washing-up liquid. White goods: Fridge-freezer, microwave plus a two electric-ring cooker. Also toaster and small coffee machine. No conventional oven or dishwasher.
It was adequate but not living up to ‘fully fitted’ in my mind.
Hanging space for clothes was an open rack. The television was an old cathode-ray tube model, not the flat screen TV shown on the website. Wireless internet access was OK, but costs additional $4.99 per stay.
The bed was comfortable, the property is an a very quiet area, not on a busy road and the plot neighbouring the hotel is empty grassed and wooded land. However the bedrooms walls are thin and if you had a noisy neighbour it could be unpleasant.
There was ample free parking. The other end of W Spruce St intersects with Dale Mabry Highway with its many shops and restaurants. Property is a few minutes from International Plaza shopping mall and restaurants. I could walk to Brio restaurant (see my review*) in 20 minutes door to door.
Daily rate for a Studio Suite 1 Queen Bed was $54.99 per night for 7 nights ($64.99 for 1 – 6 nights) when I booked it on 4 Nov but I see that today 17 Nov the price quoted $74.99.
I booked it primarily because it was cheap and close to where I had to work, plus close to International Plaza.
As I say, it was adequate.
