The theme of this hotel is "you get what you pay for." Most things about it were adequate - although the rooms were very cramped and some things barely worked. Some drawers were broken, the shower was nearly impossible to control (and also the handle came off several times), and the room had a funky smell. To their credit, the staff members were generally very nice and accommodating; and also, they were extremely willing to remove 20% from our bill when I told them of some of the problems we had. (The removal of 20% due to problems seemed like something they had run into thousands of times before.)
The most important thing about any hotel is, of course, the bed. Our bed (in the "master" bedroom) was actually pretty comfortable. The couch bed in the living room, which one of the people in our party was using, was ridiculous. The mattress was razor thin (as with most couch beds). The much bigger issue, though, was that it had a ridiculous downward slant that could not be corrected. We told the front desk right away; they switched us to a different room; but this new room had the same problem. We told them again, and they offered a room in the "Comfort Suites" section of the hotel (the two hotels are connected). This would have been a reasonable replacement, except that the Comfort Suites are not suites; a Comfort Suite is just one large room with two beds (no door to a separate bedroom). This was not good for what we needed on this trip, so we stayed with the Mainstay side of things and dealt with it.
Again, you get what you pay for. I looked around a lot for a basic, reasonably priced hotel that offered a separate bedroom, and could not find anything else comparable for the price. Mainstay was VERY rough around the edges and we would not stay there again, but it was definitely adequate.
