“Know where you stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2011

If you're going to stay at the University Inn and Suites it's not going to be for the room amenities or the great sleep quality you'll receive. The only reason you're going to stay here is because it's hard as heck to find a parking spot anywhere on or as close to FSU as this hotel and the great rate for the location. Be aware that you may need to be quite inebriated or just a heavy sleeper (like myself) to put up with the parties that rage on weekends on the strip outside the hotel. It was perfect for me, but you may need to be aware.

We are glad to hear that you enjoyed our close proximity to Florida State University as we are located directly across from the Ogelsby Union. As far as the noise from the bars across the street, unfortunately, in order for us to provide our convenience with Florida State University's campus, we are located in a busy, downtown area but our staff is willing to accommodate room changes to a quieter section of our property. Our management in the recent years have completed renovations and working on upgrading amenities for our guests in the upcoming months. We hope that you choose to stay with us again.

“FSU Orientation this is not the hotel for you!”

The air conditioner did not work, the carpet had iron burns and not so clean. They patched holes in the doors and walls sloppy and some were just left as holes. You would want to wear shower shoes in the tub it looks like it was well worn. They never finished the grout in the bathroom. Far from newly renovated and the web site makes it look nice it was a big disappointment. The only thing good was the location being close to the university. They did move our room the following day but it was not much better they all smell musty. We had the loud noise from the night life and it really is not worth the low rate for the location.

On the behalf of the University Inn and Suites management and staff we apologize for your experience with our establishment. We also apologize for the delay in our response. We have upgraded and renovated our rooms in the recent years. We took note of your complaints and fixed the issues with the patched holes, cleanliness of the bathroom, and completed the grout in the bathroom. In addition our staff is willing to handle any complaints of noise and attempt to move you to a quieter room, if available. We hope that you are willing to give us another try to see the improvements we have made.

“Please, Please, Re-do The Bathrooms. We Want To Stay Again.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2009

Just returned from parents weekend. We could walk to our daughter's dorm and didn't have to worry about parking on campus. As crappy as the hotel is we said we would stay again because of the location. Actually if they would gut and re-do the bathrooms the place wouldn't be that bad. Yes there is a lot of street noise, so if you are a light sleeper beware. We stayed in a corner room last time, much quieter. Evening front desk help was great!

We are glad to hear that our location was a great fit for your family and you were able to enjoy Parents weekend due to our close proximity to Florida State University. Since your stay in October of 2009, we have upgraded and renovated our rooms including the bathrooms. In addition, FSU has added a Papa Johns and Chili’s on Campus which are in walking distance of our property. Our staff is always willing to accommodate a guest's needs and appreciate hearing positive feedback on their service.

“Not worth a single penny- mice, smoke, & noise were not what I bargained for.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2009

When I walked into my room everything appeared to be fine, and I was thinking to myself not bad, great location- right next to FSU. A few hours later I was laying down and I looked across the room there was a mouse running across the floor board!!!! I immediately called the front desk, and they had me on hold for 10 min and when I called back the man acted like he had no idea that I had just called. I ended up getting a different room, but I was woken up early in the morning by the hotel's maintenance crew pressure washing the ground right outside my door. Then, that day, teenage boys were in the room right next to mine, it's only connected by a door with a deadbolt. I couldn't watch tv without hearing their tv and their conversations, along with having to smell the smoke seeping from underneath the connecting door. It got so bad that I had to put a towel on the ground against the bottom. I complained to the front desk and they said they couldn't do anything for me, and kept giving me the round about when I asked to speak to a manager. This hotel was inexpensive, but is FAR from worth it. This has to be the worst hotel I've ever stayed in, and I have stayed at ones that cost just the same.

We were horrified to hear about having a mouse in your room. We recently began responding to customer feedback to improve our customer service, we apologize for the delay. Upon hearing of your experience with our establishment, we notified our pest control services and began procedures to prevent rodents from infesting our property. The management has also changed its policies on handling guests complaints to better serve our patrons. Now, if there is a customer complaint, it is reviewed by the manager on duty. Our staff was retrained with these policies in order to better serve our patrons. We apologize for any troubles and inconveniences you had with our establishment.

“Great Location Makes Up for Negatives”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 June 2009

Despite other reviews, my experience was not bad. Went for the kid's FSU Freshman Orientation (Living the Dream!). I had gone to FSU in the mid 80s and knew the area...so I knew this was a place I could leave the car and walk anywhere I needed to go. And it was. This is also a testament that the place is OLD....so much of the wear and tear is because of that.

True...it was not clean...they gave me Room 131 - a handicap accessible room though I did not need it. It smelled fine. The room did have dust etc in the corners, cigarette burns in bathroom (room did NOT SMELL like smoke so those must have been old), and a bug on the bathroom floor one morning.

BUT...service was very good...the blowdryer did not work...within 10 minutes of calling the office, I had a new one that worked fine. AND...the Bed was very comfy...sheets were clean. No bright lights shining in. Internet worked super! For me...it was quiet. Except when the kid texted me at 12:02 AM to tell me he wanted me to bring him some bottled water the next day. UGH! Haha!

All in all...the super convenient location was great and made up for any negatives. I walked wherever I needed to go. They let me leave the car there until we were ready to leave town. I would probably stay here again and request the same room.

We were glad to hear that your stay was such a great one. Especially since you remembered our establishment from when you attended college and it's close proximity to Florida State University. Our management has been constantly upgrading and renovating the property to accommodate guests' needs. We reviewed our housekeeping checklist to ensure cleanliness of the room and our pest control services are doing their job. We are glad to hear that our staff was able to cater to any inconveniences you had during your stay. We hope that you come back soon and see the upgrades to the Ogelsby Union and the Tennessee Strip and choose to stay with us again.
