“Are you sure this is in Tallahassee?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

I had to travel for business and our agency recommended this hotel. I was pleasently surprised! I went to FSU and always remembered the cheap highway hotel/motels. At this hotel I had I remind myself I was down the street from my college bar Kens - this hotel is so far removed from the college scene.

Rooms reminded me of the W in DC - where the bathroom is literally open to the room, but easily private by closing the sliding glass doors. Comfy bed, flat screen TV - what more can you ask for when traveling for business?

We enjoyed the lounge at the top of hotel with a cool patio overlooking "the city". They had live music which was great - the scene was a bit strange though. Not the business traveler or local yuppie crowd I expected - more old and sloppy drunk..although it was kind of empty for a Thursday night.

My only complaint was room service in the morning. I request a parfait and coffee at 7:45-8:00 and it came at 8:15 - with no coffee. I had to leave at 8:20 so it was a waste of $20.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel and plan to stay there when I come for games. And may I suggest the restaurant Cypress just down the street...yummy!

“Very posh but yikes to the noise levels”

The room was gorgeous, and the front desk and bellman staff were very nice. The balers were,hmmm... Looking for a bigger tip. They were less than courteous. But the gentleman that helped with the bags, what a doll! Truly a sweetheart.
I cannotnsay how nice the room was, we were in 411, the red floor. Each floor has a color, and is scented.... Which was really neat. Being on the fourth floor we thought we were far enough away from the club on the 8th floor. Not even close. We did t get to sleep til after 3. People were loud in the hallway, and at the club. If it had rained that would have been great. The music and customers were incredibly loud... And this was not from the street level, which is what was suggested by the front desk at 2 am when I called to complain. I called a second time after 3am.... But there was nothing they could do.
It is really a shame that the stay was ruined by noise. I was unhappy to see that my concerns were not helped when I brought It to the front desk upon check out. I asked for the manager and was told she was not available. Not sure if in would stay again.

Room Tip: Try for a lower level, do not stay on a weekend if you treasure sleeping

Dear poppingupdaisies,

Thank you for taking time to submit such a thorough review about your recent stay with us. It is always our goal to exceed our guests' expectations in every facet of their stay, and it appears that we did not completely accomplish our goal during your stay.

I would like to apologize on behalf of the "balers" who came across as less than courteous. That level of service is not a representation of the culture we have instilled at Hotel Duval. Your comments about the noise level from Level 8 have also been noted and I will personally follow up with the Level 8 manager to ensure that we are sensitive to our guests needs. There should always be a manager available to handle any and all guest concerns and I am truly sorry that you were unable to voice your concerns at time of checkout. Please feel free to contact me directly at (850) 224-6131 or by email at jroberts@hotelduval.com to discuss your stay. I truly want to win your business back and invite you to contact me directly to personally facilitate your next stay with us. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Regards,

James P. Roberts

“When did attempts at cool become the norm in Tally?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

Remember when you were in high school and the cool kids were cool because they were rude to the nerds? Well that's the feeling I got last week upon checking in at the Hotel Duval. I'm a middle aged business traveler who logged about 80 nights on the road in 2011 for work and 20 more for fun, so I'm used to all types of traveling adventures. I've been upgraded, downgraded and walked to other properties, but I've never been left stranded in the lobby by a 25 year old desk clerk who would rather chat with the bellman and the cute college co-eds behind me in line...until this week.

Maybe it's because Tallahassee is a college town trying to be hip instead of a state capitol with a legislature in session, but leaving a Platinum Marriott member whose arrival date didn't match the reservation on file with only a "sorry, M'am...next in line" just won't cut it for this single business traveler. When I pleaded for assistance in finding another reservation at a Marriott Courtyard down the road, I was told that the Hotel Duval was an Autograph Property and not a Marriott. Silly me, I had booked the reservation on the Marriott website, just like I do each week. Who'd know that Autographs, like the cool kids in highschool can do what they want.

So there I was 8:00 PM, alone in Tallahassee and no place to land for the night. Fortunately I found shelter at the Aloft across the street at twice the price of my Marriott, oops I mean Autograph, rate.

Yes, the mix up in the reservation was mine, but how a property takes care of its own in times of peril is critical. What I came to learn this week is that brand loyalty is overrated. Customer service at the Hotel Duval is dead. It could be a lack of training of its staff, or perhaps the trendy lobby and overpriced Shula's restaurant onsite has caused the staff to think that they can stray from courtesy and service for the average business traveler.

“Great Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

I spend a lot of nights in a hotel on business and most of them end up looking the same. This hotel had personality and a very urban upbeat feel. Good location for downtown and universities. Very friendly and capable staff. The rooms were funcional for business use, but romantic for a weekend get away.

Room Tip: They have a very active lounge on the top floor on weekends. You might want to stay in a lower room...

“What a nice surprise!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We booked this hotel room because it was reasonably priced, well located, and one of the few Boutique located in Tallahassee. When we arrived and walked into the modern existent lobby we were greeted by the welcoming staff and soon after - the incredibly spacious room. We had an executive room on the back side--no exceptional view but no noise either--and couldn't have been more pleased. The room was stylish, spacious, and included a good size living room, and private comfortable bedroom, mini bar area and large bathroom. Honest, kind, pleasant staff. Great location, good roof bar terrace. I'll definitely rebook the Duval the next time I go to Tallahassee. Kudos to James the manager.
