My wife and daughter stayed recently for two nights on a football weekend. The rates were nearly double at $99 per night, but of course all the local hotels do that on a game weekend. Check-in was easy, the room and bath were very clean, beds comfortable, sheets and blankets were clean. Everything worked fine. Road noise was high, but we can stand that. Overall, when I get this much out of a budget hotel, I never complain. A bad thing happened, though. When we returned to the room the following evening, we found it had not been visited by the cleaning staff. I called the office clerk who apologized sincerely, but admitted that the cleaning staff was gone for the day. They offered fresh towels if needed. No problem, I told them. We're not terribly put off by things like this, but I mentioned that since having your room cleaned is a significant part of a motel stay, that they should consider adjusting my bill to reflect the omission. The clerk contacted the manager who authorized knocking a whopping $10 off my $200 bill. Gee...thanks.
