This Best Western is obviously an older property, but it's set back quite a bit from the road. It's a short drive to restaurants, fast food places, a large shopping mall and the state capitol building. Immediately adjacent is a Kohl's store.
This is a motel with outdoor entrances to each room. We had a first floor room, which was convenient for our one-night stay. The room was quite large, with a small sitting area and desk near the door and a separate area with a king bed. There was a microwave and refrigerator, as well as the usual coffeemaker. The vanity area was outside the toilet / bath & shower area. The toilet wasn't well secured to the floor, and rocked slightly. There's definitely been some updating (granite countertops, for example), but the place still looks old. Although the tub had been repaired multiple times, the shower head was great and there was ample hot water. The hotel was barely occupied the Sunday evening we stayed.
Our biggest problem came at check-in time. We'd done our homework online while driving and knew there was availability and what we should pay with our AARP discount. The Best Western site gave us the best rate. We didn't reserve online because doing so on a smartphone is painful at best and we figured we could drive to the place and get the same rate. Wrong. As it turned out, the desk clerk could not get the computer to give us the same rate we were quoted on the Best Western site, even with our AARP card and even with showing the clerk the rate on our smartphone. So...we had to do the booking on the smartphone while standing at the front desk. After that, the clerk was able to come up with a rate close to the one we attempted to book online.
The room we stayed in had 3 separate locks on the door (deadlocks on the handle, above the handle and a chain lock). While the motel is somewhat secluded, this didn't exactly inspire confidence in the area's security. The key is somewhat of an oddity (looks a bit like a USB device), and didn't always work the first time.
The breakfast room is large and has 2 long counters with plenty of selections. The trouble was, everything (save for the cold cereal). was downright bad. The juice (cranberry, orange or apple) was about half-strength, as was the coffee. While there were hot items (sausage and powdered eggs...plus the ubiquitous waffle maker), nothing really tasted good. There was a selection of breads and donuts, but the donut I had was quite dry and stale. I suspect that having an empty hotel means they put the same old food out day after day. The management should consider reducing the number of selections and improving the quality of the food...which should cost the same or less than what they're currently paying.
In summary, this motel was OK, but isn't one we'd choose again.

Dear guest i thank you for your review. Unfortunately the rate you saw on line is what is called "as the internet rate only" with a seven day prepay and can not be cancelled after the seven day period. i do apologise for not being able to honor the rate you saw on line however, we did give you the closest available rate with a free upgrade to a suite. I do thank you for bringing the other issues to my attention and be assured that all steps will be taken to correct your concerns. All reviews are taken very seriously as this the best way for us to improve. About this being an exterior corridor property there is not much i can do to rectify this for which i do apologise once more. Please contact me directly and i will personally make sure your future stays are to your satisfaction.
