While this is a very pleasant location and a nice hotel, it was really the service that we received from the moment of check-in until we left. My 81 year old mother was flying down to meet me and would arrive before me and my husband so I called the hotel and was given the name of a car service to pick her up at the palm beach airport. The car service was excellent, calling to confirm the day before the flight. She was greeted by someone from the hotel who came out to the car when she arrived.
Every service person, from those that took her luggage (and mine, late that night) to our room service waiters, was exceptional. They even called our room to apologize say that they would be 5-10 minutes late with one of our many room service orders!
In addition, on our first day, we had difficulty with our in room wireless. When it could not be resolved by one of their technicians, the chief engineer and general manager came to our room to resolve the problem. They even offered to move us, if necessary, which it was not.
We stayed in the sandpiper building with a beautiful view of the ocean and listened to the surf all night. Our room was large and very clean. Housekeeping was great, very cooperative. We asked for extra towels, pillows, and luggage racks. They couldn't have been more accommodating. I did walk around the property to the main building and the marina. Very nice.
I would recommend this specific hotel highly. The service is comparable to the Four Seasons.

I believe what bit you was not bed bugs but a local pest known as "NOSeeUms"
These pests are quite voracious, darn near invisible and itch like mad for weeks after you are bitten.
The reviewer mentioned going to the beach where these bugs swarm in the dawn and dusk areas of the sand (just the times we love to walk the beaches here)
The solution is to apply a repellent to all exposed skin at those times.

We are frequent guests of this Marriott and have always had a wonderful experience. This trip was no different. The staff is incredibly wonderful and attentive. Although they had no formal "kids activities" planned, the staff did some wonderful arts and crafts activities with our kids, and even arranged for the kids to make s'mores around a fire. The updated rooms are clean, and the housekeeping staff did a great job.

I stayed at this resort for a seminar. I liked the fact that it was in a very quiet and relaxing part of town. There were several restaurants that served good food and the beach was within driving distance. The resort was old, the furniture showed its age, but the convenience and atmosphere was enough to look past these issues. However, I encountered two serious concerns.

While browsing this resort online, I got the impression that it was a beach front property. Well, I booked it under the seminar's room block. I got a room at the conference center, which was a trolley ride away which took about 20 minutes (wait time and time for the trolley to make it from my trolley stop to the beach). I didn't really fit with my idea of staying at the beach for a seminar, like what I had when I was deciding where to stay when I registered.

The second issue I had was bed bugs. I had bites all over my legs after the second night. I requested the hotel staff to clean my room. I was not sure how thorough the cleaning was since I still got new bite marks during my stay. I ended up buying my own bed and flea spray to stop the bites. Instead of relaxing after the seminar to prepare for my long drive home, I spent my final night spraying my bag and clothes as well as my car so I don't end up bringing these pests home with me.

I reported this problem during the second night of my stay after I realized I had bed bugs. The staff did acknowledge my problem after showing them the red bumps on my feet and legs.

I also emailed the hotel after my stay, this was the response:

Thank you for recently staying at the Hutchinson Island Marriott Resort in Stuart Florida. After receiving your Customer Satisfaction Survey we had your former guest room inspected by a company named Steritech to research your concerns about pests in the room. The Steritech report has come back negative for bed bugs and pest activity. (Please see the attached report.) Our General Manager wanted to ensure that you know that the test results came out negative. A potential pest problem is something that we do not take lightly. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance. Have a wonderful day!

My reply was:

I appreciate the follow up on the survey. Frankly, I am not surprised that your company denies having this problem. You sent me a request to fill in a survey, and I gave an honest feedback. remember that I sprayed my bed and the carpet with my own bed bug and flea spray while I was there. I was covered with red marks from the bites. This was what I honestly experienced at your hotel during my stay. What happened between the day I checked out and the day if the test is beyond my knowledge. I am not asking for any compensation, but I wanted to make you aware of this problem so it does not happen to anybody else.

I truly hope the hotel made sure this does not happen to anybody. They were renovating part of the hotel during my stay, so hopefully we can see cleaner rooms with upgraded furniture. I also appreciate the hotel's attention to my problem with the bed bugs.
