We had book for 2 nights. When you come in the main hall for check in, the first thing you'll notice is the strong moisture odor. We went to our room on the 2nd floor and the nightmare began. First, a small lizard was on the nightstand looking at the alarm clock. We called front desk and they told us to capture it and throw it out. This raised our suspicions and we decided to inspect the room before unpacking. The bathtub was stained and uninviting, they're was an inch thick of dust under the bed, our bed sheets had a yellowish stain of 6" in diameter and we've found 2 small insects crawling in the bed (bedbugs??? I couldn't say). They were some rose petals left behind the nightstand from guests who probably had a romantic night (iiihhhh!). The very old green chair in the corner was so disgusting that it could be use in Fear Factor and it had a big hole on the side bottom and I had the feeling that pointing a flashlight in that hole would make me relive a scene from an Indiana Jones movie.

The only positive thing about our visit is that when I went back to the front desk to tell them we weren't staying, they understood, cancelled our booking and even helped me to get my rewards points back so I could use them elsewhere. We didn't try our luck at the Quality Inn next door because they had told us a story when we checked in that both hotels had the same owner. Instead we went 3 miles away to the Comfort Inn & Suites on University and this place was a real palace!

Cigarette burns and stains on the comforter, so we took it off only to see even more cigarette burns in the blanket, counted 3 more burns in the drapes, holes in the walls by the bathroom door, hairs in the bathtub, found chicken wing behind tv. This place was disgusting, couldn't believe they still are a member of Choice Hotels

Many years ago, this property was a Hampton Inn but was converted a number of years ago to a Comfort Inn. The rooms are nicely appointed (for a mid-tier hotel), with lot of pillows and a very comfortable mattress. Three stories with an elevator. I've stayed here many times, most recently this week. Check-in and check-out was pleasant and efficient. There's a self serve breakfast in the morning, and while I personally haven't eaten any of it, it looks fairly decent, and the coffee in the lobby is surprisingly good. Noise carries here, so if you have noisy neighbors or someone who likes to idle the car at 3:00am, you'll hear it (the car idling was a constant this trip), but other than that, this is a comfortable and clean place to stay. My only issue - and it is minor - is that I am a top tier Choice Privileges Diamond Member, but it seems to make little difference. When I checked in, I was told that the room would be on the third floor - which I do not care for - so I asked for another room. I was told that there were no more rooms, but after reminding them that I was a Diamond member (meaning that I stay 40+ nights/year in Choice properties), she managed to find one on the first floor. The hotel was not heavily booked, and finding a suitable room should not be a problem, especially since Diamond members are entitled to space available upgrades. I ran into this same issue earlier this year on a previous stay, which is why I've chosen to mention it here. But overall, this is a nice hotel for a mid-tier property and is also very convenient to Sarasota Airport - less than 5 minutes away. They offer AAA and senior rates, and if you book at choicehotels.com in advance, you may be entitled to an early bird discount.

I just joined the Choice Hotels Program and this was my first stay. I have always stayed at Holiday Inns in the past and expected a similar experience. What a disappointment this hotel was. The blankets looked like they were about 20 years old and my wife wanted to check out when we walked in. I carefully removed the blankets and put them on top of the wardrobe closet in the room. We wiped down the sink, toilet, phone, cable control and door handles with antibacterial wipes she had brought and were feeling good about the room. Then my wife went in to take a shower and found a dirty washcloth that was left behind on the shower rod. Needless to say, that didn't make for a great night and the next day we checked out. I wish I had read the reviews before we went, but it was near the Ringling Museum and the location and price were perfect. As one reviewer said, they are trying, but they have a long way to go.
