I've never in my life written a review, but this place inspired me. First of all, I'm 20 years old and rather responsible. I was in Sarasota with friends for a tournament, and we chose a cheap spot to stay halfway between the beach and the tournament. HUGE mistake. The girl who checked us in was friendly, but informed us that we ALL had to be 21 to stay in the room - not just one of us. We asked her if this was normal, and she said that it was just their hotel that had the rule. Since we'd already paid for the room, though, she went ahead and let us check in.
The room was pretty gross, but we were expecting that... it was also pretty cheap. The next morning, three of us went to check out the "continental breakfast." It was a joke! They had bread, jelly, and one type of crappy cereal - but NO MILK! Tell me how I'm supposed to eat cereal with no milk. That's crazy talk. So we ate toast and drank juice.
The daytime desk clerk was not as friendly. On our way out of the lobby to finish getting ready for the morning, he stopped us and started harassing us like we were delinquents. He asked us what room we were in and how many of us were in there (there were five, but we said three just to see where he was going with it)... he informed us that the hotel's policy is to charge $10 per night for every extra person (over 2) who stayed. WE HAD A ROOM WITH TWO DOUBLE BEDS! DID THEY REALLY EXPECT JUST TWO PEOPLE TO STAY IN THAT ROOM!? So we sort of just agreed and walked out.
Then, while getting ready, a HUGE cockroach was found climbing up the side of the wall NEXT TO MY BED! So we put it in a cup, covered it, and set it outside for the maids to take care of... hoping the grouchy desk clerk would see it, too. I left the weekend with several odd bugbites (bed bugs??) and a really bad attitude about the place. It was practically empty - and for good reason. I get it, the room was cheap, don't expect a lot... but is a clean, bug-free room and friendly service a WHOLE lot to ask for?? NOT what we paid for.
