Before I booked my room at the Suburban Extended Stay Sarasota I read the reviews on tripadvisor.com. I saw so many bad reviews about this hotel that I thought it just could not be true. Boy was I wrong. The fist thing that stood out is the furniture in the office lobby was dirty! We paid for the room, open the door and the first thing that was noticed was an odor from the carpet. The walls had scuff marks on them. One pillow case was badly stained. However, the bathtub was horrible! I enclosed a picture. Not only is the tub badly stained and chipped, it had dark mold in the crevices between the floor and wall. When I went to turn my key back in for a refund, the desk clerk didn't even ask why!

`I would not recommend families to stay here. What we saw & experienced while staying here was not pleasant. The previous poster was correct when he said the bath tubs do not drain. They are never fixed. There is no clean towels or house keeping except about every 8 days or so they come put clean sheets on the bed & leave towels then. It is a very large hotel with many rooms, 3 stories high. We saw prostitutes in the parking lot, confronting men, one even confronted my husband. They are available 24 hours a day. There was more activity going on in the parking lot too and a guest even found a hypodermic needle under his mattress. It appears to be in a nice location, but once you stay there, you find out otherwise.

We were vacationing for a week in the Sarasota/Bradenton area, and wanted to stay on the cheap, but still have access to a kitchen. This was the best we could find in the price range we were looking for. I was a bit paranoid after reading many of the reviews, but it really wasn't so bad. Yes, it is near the airport, so expect some "shady" types to be out on the street. Kitchen was very basic, and we basically had 2 plates, 4 cups, a knife, 2 burners, fridge, and a microwave. It was sufficient for our needs. There was not an alarm clock which was fine, and we were able to get a hold of an iron after asking the house keeper. The room wasn't beautiful, and we didn't expect it to be. It was basic, clean, and functional. If you are expecting a 5 star resort, don't bother. If you want a basic place to sleep when not vacationing, on the cheap, this place will do. Location is about 15 minutes from the public beaches, shopping strips, and there are restaurants all over the place.

I was late arriving and had called from the road, the evening manager was very pleasant and helpful. Upon arrival, a few minutes prior to the desk closing at 11pm, I was approached by a man in the parking lot soliciting for funds for gas. It made me very wary of the area. After checking in, I took a shower only to discover the tub did not drain properly. Then later, I noticed a huge Palmetto Bug in the room. The next morning, I returned to the front desk to report the drain problem and to sign papers for the next evening's stay. I was assured by mgt that the drain problem would be resolved prior to my return in the evening and that all my paperwork was in order, no rekeying necessary. When I returned that evening, lugged my stuff back up the two flights of stairs, I was annoyed to find out my keys did not work. Back down to the car and drove around to the front office to do what I had already attempted to complete earlier in the day. When I returned to the room, I noticed the water remained untouched in the tub. Later in the evening, I was unfortunate to experience the falling of plaster from the ceiling tile located above the toilet (there was evidence of a prior leak which has been patched but was now, fresh & wet and falling onto the toilet. Once again, I called management to report the problems with the room and was assured by night mgt that it would be noted. I was fearful that the toilet from the room above might actually come through if the residents continued to use the facilities. Before checking out on 04/04/09, I made the housekeeper aware of the problems with the room and the new mgr at the front desk. I was advised that it could be leaking from repairs they were making in the room above where they were allegedly remodeling and replacing bathroom fixtures. Believe me, this is not from remodeling. I never saw signs of remodeling in the facility.
I was disappointed that mgt did not repair the tub prior to my return that evening or offer to move me to another room. By the time the offer of another room came after the development of the ongoing leak/plaster falling problems, I was too exhausted to be disturbed any further by this hotel management style.
No discounts for the inconvenience were offered. Only excuses for what was going on and promises that were never fulfilled.
The location is ok. The pool/picnic/grill areas looked nice and clean. The area where I roomed was dimly lit and the cement looked very dirty. I was in a high traffic area by the stairs. I wonder who is sleeping there tonight and in the room above because I don't think they took the time to make the needed repairs or closed off the rooms, since they never followed up on what they said they were going to do before.
