“Cozy and Charming”

I stayed at the Sandpiper Inn this past August for several days. I was down visiting family and it worked out perfectly that the inn had a vacancy. Also traveling with me was my dog and the manager was nothing but accommodating and very attentive. The room was very clean and well appointed. The decor was charming and appropriate for the small quaint inn that it is. We enjoyed it so much that we stayed two days longer than planned. Overall I found it to be extremely pleasant visit.
Having been a visitor to Sanibel since my youth I am aware and respectful of the fragility of the island and the unique creatures that inhabit it and its surrounding waters. I also know that Florida outlawed the collecting of live shells, sand dollars, starfish and sea urchins from the islands. Actually, you can’t go anywhere on the islands without seeing something regarding live shell collection. I’ve seen signs at the beaches, read it on websites, restaurant menus. Seashells are important to the islands’ because Sanibel and Captiva are refuge islands where all life is considered precious. I read the review submitted by the individual that states that the manager was rude. That couldn't be further from the truth. Most often rudeness is a reaction to impertinent behavior. The residents of the islands and the majority of visitors are protective and passionate about the fragile state of these beautiful islands and understand the important role every creature on the islands plays, including every single shell. Unfortunately, the islands will always have visitors that have no regard for the environment or respect for local laws and when an islander witnesses any display of that disregard they will certainly let you know…and they should.
In closing, I am upset to see that a negative review can be posted about the inn and its staff because of a guest’s ignorance. I would visit the Sandpiper Inn again and again and I would recommend it to anyone going to Sanibel.

We stay here twice yearly. Clean and home like. Love the free bikes and chairs for the beach. Love the manager and her dog. Love the units with there kitchen and living room area. Great porch. Everything is great and we keep coming back year after year and love all the improvements they continue to make. Best value on the island for down to earth real people who appreciate life and this island. We have stayed in all the fancy inns prior to this and this it the best. Thanks Laurie

“Bad Day @ the Beach”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

Owner/Manager is a psycho. My wife & her friend had a run-in with her that was completely uncalled for. We left the next morning and won't return. Property needs maintenance attention and beds are past their "use by" date by about several years. My back is still hurting. Not a good experience.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

Thank you for contacting us regarding your stay at the Sandpiper Inn. We always appreciate feedback. We are sorry your stay was not what you expected, The Sandpiper Inn is in the process of being renovated as we are new owners. As I understand it from our Manager the issue was over live shells being taken from the beach. We apologize if there was a misunderstanding, but below is Sanibel's laws on Live Shells:

Because Seashells are important to the island's chain of life, and because Sanibel and Captiva are refuge islands where all life is considered precious, the State of Florida has outlawed the collecting of live shells on the island. "Live Shell"is defined as any speciman containing an inhabitant, whether or not the mollusk seems alive. The law also protects sand dollars, starfish, and sea urchins.
Again we apologize if there was a misunderstanding, and thank you for your feedback.

This was our 2nd stay here and better then the first which was real good. They have refresh the unit we stayed in and it made our stay that much more enjoyable. Sanibel has a wide range of prices, if you want guest service(another persons review) then you need to look somewhere else. This place is very price friendly. There is no 24 hour service and we don't need it. Everything you want is available. Free funky bikes( $15 saving a day), beach chairs and umbrellas. The kitchen saved us money again for breakfast or lunch so we could go out at night enjoy some nice dinners and not put us in the poor house which is very easy on Sanibel.

“cozy with some charm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 May 2011

My husband and I stayed here the weekend of May 6th. I was a little hesitant when he booked Sandpiper Inn based on some reviews, but everything turned out great. It is in a GREAT location, and the rooms are clean and lock just fine. The bed was comfy and I was happy to see the managers provided a fan as well (including the A/C). The only thing that would have made it nicer is if the manager/inn keeper was there to greet us, but other than that everything was great. This is a good value and worth considering for your stay in Sanibel!
