“Perfect weekend getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2010

My husband and I spent Memorial Day weekend in C-20 at the Colony. We had the time of our lives! The room was perfect...a cozy, comfy king-sized bed, a separate living room with plush sofas, a fully stocked kitchen, and an AMAZING screened-in porch with some of the most comfortable patio furniture I have ever sat on. We luxuriated and relaxed all weekend.

None of the rooms have a view of the gulf, which was ultimately fine, but the website does make it look like some of the rooms are right there near the water. In truth, the resort is separated from the water by a grove of trees and some other beach homes. Not to worry! The view from C-20 is still great...trees and total privacy. The beach is just a short walk away, and the room came stocked with beach chairs! Also, the pool has a great upper deck area where I could soak up some sun away from the other people.

We can't wait to go back...we will request C-20 for years to come. We recommend eating breakfast at The Lighthouse Cafe and dinner at Gramma Dot's.

“Would NOT recommend !! Do NOT waste your money or your time!!”

Our first night stay was in C-17. The beds were horribly uncomfortable. We did not sleep well at all and our bodies were sore the next day. We are 30-40 yrs old and have not experienced back and neck pain like this ever before!! One of the management staffers was accomodating and apologetic and moved us to C-2. However, that night the 20 yr olds above us came in at 2am and partied like rock stars until 4 am. Our children commented the next morning that they did not sleep well and could HEAR everything. Well, so could we !! Nothing like your 10 year old daughter getting a sex ed course on the fly! Management staff really didn't say much other than.."well they checked out today". Great, thanks. SO...the next morning we were welcomed with a phone call from One of the Management staff yelling over the phone that their cleaning crew was there and we HAD to vacate the room by 11am. What happened to our late check out??? NO one cared and were frantic to get us OUT. THIS WEEKEND WAS the WORST weekend we have spent traveling. Even our Children commented on the LACK of HOSPITALITY. Don't waste your money.

“This is my 10th stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2009

Since 1985 I have been going to Sanibel Island on vacation. Since 1993 I have been staying at the Colony Resort. Love it! Highly recommended! Clean, nicely decorated! Great value! Feels like home! Kids love it, very family friendly, great for a romanitc get-a-way! Tanning, shelling, long walks in the beach, watch a beautiful sunset, long bike rides. Visit the Bubble Room for dinner. As you can tell I love Sanibel & I love The Colony Resort !!!!!!!!

“Clean, Close to the beach, and Good VALUE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2009

We've stayed at the Colony Resort in Sanibel, Florida for several years. The rooms are clean and remodeled. They have their own pool and and very very short walk to the beach. The rooms have a smalls kitchenette (stove, refrigerator, microwave, pots, pans, glasses, utensils). They also have plenty of beach chairs. We called and asked the front desk what was one of the nicer rooms and she recommended C8, which was recently remodeled. The staff is very nice and the hotel is close to a bike trail and ice cream shop. It's located on the east side of the island. If you're going to be late (after hours), let the hotel know and they'll accommodate you. We also got the reservation from http://www.rescen.com/sanibelcaptiva/. However, if your are staying more than a 4 days in Sanibel, I would rent a condo. Less than 4, stay at the Colony. It's probably the least expensive place on the island that's close to the beach and clean.
Enjoy!

“Nice laid back weekend!”

Having always stayed on Captiva and never on Sanibel I was a bit nervous on what I had rented. It was not a let down, though. Yes the unit we were in was dated, it still have alot of charm. Hardwood floors, tile in the bathroom and kitchen...Shower was awesome! The only downfall was we were in a cottage-#17 (they do not tell you its a duplex) and the people in the other unit had kids who woke us up every morning. Walls were VERY thin. Not having kids yet, made this girl not a happy camper. The beach was great..Awesome shelling. Much better than our last trip to the South Seas. Actually found a sand dollar!!
