“Quiet place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

When we travel we always look for the cheapest place that is both very clean and very safe. Colony Resort fits all 3. Safe, clean, and low price for the island. Kids can stay here but it is just about all older couples. It is a little bitty quick walk to the beach and this year they started renting bikes so that is convenient. This is our 2nd year to stay here and we will be back. Love it!

“Quiet Side of the Island. Peaceful retreat."”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2011

The Colony is a bit of a throw back motel/hotel to the old days of Florida hotels which is great for some people, less so for others. For me personally, I like its retro feel. Its far from a luxurious place but a perfect beach retreat steps from the beach and on the quieter side of the island. Each unit has a bedroom, small kitchen, living room and screened in porch/lanai. I stayed in C-41 which is on the second level. Its not handicap accessible so the elderly or mobile challenged would want to stay in a unit on the first floor. There is a small pool with a few barbecues located nearby if you choose to cook lunch or dinner while sitting in the sun. There is a great sun deck off the pool as well. Each unit comes with parking for one car. You will find you don't need your car too often as you can walk two blocks to the Lighthouse Cafe or an ice cream shop or convenience store. There is also a deli nearby for sandwiches should you choose to pack a lunch for the beach. Also there is a great shop with beachwear as well. You can get bikes delivered to the hotel to take advantage of the great bike paths on Sanibel. I rode all the way up to Ding Darling and back. The staff is very friendly. This is a terrific value for short or long stays. My unit was freshly painted and clean. i will return. A very simple, relaxing stay."

“It was like staying in a lovely home.”

My husband and I were genuinely surprised at the the lovely accomodations and reasonable rates of the Colony Resort. Our place had a bedroom, kitchen, living area and screened in lanai. The area was quiet, but accessible to restaurants and shopping. Would definitely stay here, if we go to that part of Florida again.

“We will be back”

Our friends having been staying at this hotels for years and they always rave about it, so we decided to join them this past weekend. It is truly a great place! We stayed in a unit c16 which has a door through the next unit (great for a multi families)
This hotel is far from luxury! It's more of a quaint old florida tropical feel! Very, very clean!! Not so great beds and pillows but not so bad that we had trouble sleeping. Full size kitchen with everything you need.

It's not a beachfront but it is just a short walk away with through a beautiful wooden bridge (beautiful for pictures) . My favorite part of this hotel was the peacefulness and safe feel it had. Our children were able to play outside while the moms prepared lunch. They felt free and just like kids... something they never feel living in a big city.

The service was amazing! We wanted to take a small cooler with us on our bike ride and the lady at the front desk lend us her own personal bungi cords! We asked for a late checkout and since there was no one coming in after us they said it was no problem and let us stay until 3pm at no additional cost!! They really go that extra mile to make you feel at home.

I know we will be back soon! We loved it here!!!

“Perfect weekend getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2010

My husband and I spent Memorial Day weekend in C-20 at the Colony. We had the time of our lives! The room was perfect...a cozy, comfy king-sized bed, a separate living room with plush sofas, a fully stocked kitchen, and an AMAZING screened-in porch with some of the most comfortable patio furniture I have ever sat on. We luxuriated and relaxed all weekend.

None of the rooms have a view of the gulf, which was ultimately fine, but the website does make it look like some of the rooms are right there near the water. In truth, the resort is separated from the water by a grove of trees and some other beach homes. Not to worry! The view from C-20 is still great...trees and total privacy. The beach is just a short walk away, and the room came stocked with beach chairs! Also, the pool has a great upper deck area where I could soak up some sun away from the other people.

We can't wait to go back...we will request C-20 for years to come. We recommend eating breakfast at The Lighthouse Cafe and dinner at Gramma Dot's.
