“Geoff and Janet's Excellent holiday”

This is the "Old Florida". Exactly what we were loking for. We stayed in the Matthew Lodge. Great room. Bathroom has been nicey updated at some time, has double vanities, granite tops etc. Daily maid service was fantastic. Screened lanai at front of unit that faces the ocean was great for lazing around or having a meal. Kitchen was well stocked with utensils and appliances. There are bike rental services that will deliver and pick up bicycles. Baileys Store is an easy bike ride where you can get the New York Times or any other paper, groceries and wine. Very friendly people in this part of the world. The only caveat is that the onsite restaurant is popular and busy, don't book right next to it! Beach is to die for. If you go to Ding Darling make sure the tide is low in the refuge, that is when the birds show up to feed. Enjoy!

Thank you for your review and stay at the Island Inn on Sanibel Island, FL. Excellent tip concerning visiting Ding Darling at low tide… we always suggest guests take time to see the natural wonders the wildlife refuge holds! Also, the Inn rents bikes too, so no need to have them delivered the next time around. We hope you had a safe trip back to Canada and you are able to return to Sanibel soon!

“Very nice location - run down inn”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

We stayed two nights in a first-floor room in Kimball Lodge. Yes, the room had an ocean view and the bed was comfortable. Otherwise, the room was infested with tiny ants (mgmt did nothing about this) and showing wear (peeling paint, stains). The bathroom was quite small. The breakfast is very basic. The folks there do not go out of their way to help at all. Not a good value for $210 a night.

Room Tip: Try for an upper level room for a better view of the gulf.

“Relaxation at its best”

We just returned from the Island Inn and it was so great to get away from it all. We did not rent a car so we rented bikes (wished they were free for guest) but it was great to see the Island this way...the bike trails are beautiful. Traditions resteraunt was amazing...best steak we have had in a long time. Sunsets and Sunrises cant be beat. The only con was we were by far the youngest couple on the island and I felt the old people were kind of snobby towards us. But I didnt let it bother me. Free breakfast was good enough for us. We would def. return to the Island Inn.

“Lovely Hotel”

When we orignally walked up to the hotel, I was concerned about what I got myself into, but once stepping inside, everything changed. Rooms have been nicely renovated. Restaurant is fantastic. Grounds are clean. Very peaceful and relaxing. The only knock on this hotel for us was that they refused to assist with any special request. We had a lot of rooms booked for family and friends for the wedding and they refused to give ground on any special rates for a block of rooms.

Room Tip: We had rooms reserved in all the buildings, and only one room was of question as it was really small...

Thank you for your review and stay at the Island Inn. It sounds like you and your guests found exactly what you were looking for!

As for the one small room you mentioned, I believe you are speaking of the Gulfside Guest Room (1 queen bed, fridge/micro/coffee maker, limited view). This room is our smallest and least expensive accommodation that is, as you stated, very suitable for single occupancy/short stays.

Concerning your request of a discount, we typically do not discount accommodations unless it is a particularly large block of rooms or the accommodations are being booked during low demand seasons (September, etc.).

Thank you again for holding your special day at our Inn and we hope you will make visiting the Island Inn a family/friend tradition! :-)

“Girlfriend Weekend In Sanibel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We live in Fort Lauderdale, but Sanibel is worlds away! My BFF and I needed a beach weekend away from the bustle and found the Island Inn in Sanibel. The resort is located right on the beach, with a nice pool. Our room was basic, but clean and had a nice terrace. I guess the bugs are bad in Sanibel, because all the balconies have screens. I would have preferred to be able to look out without one. But that is what it is. If you are a sheller, this is the place to go. Lots of shells and a great walking beach, though be prepared to wear shoes, the shells hurt your bare feet! The property offered free bike rentals and a complimentary continental breakfast. The breakfast was not to my liking, I don't fill up on carbs first thing, but if you like cereal and bagels, you will be fine. We liked the location on the island, as it was easy to get to the main area where we could have dinnder. Since the room had a small refridgerator in the room, we pretty much had lunch and breakfast in our room, or on the beach and opted to eat dinner out to keep the cost down. I think the price is a littel high for what you get, but Sanibel is expensive. I love the islands chill out feel, so this may be a nice place for you to relax and enjoy a beach retreat.

Thank you for your feedback concerning your recent stay at the Island Inn. We’re so glad you were able to get away from the stress of the East coast of Florida and find serenity on Sanibel Island. We hope you and your BFF are able to make it back to the Island Inn the next time the hustle and bustle of city life becomes too much to bare. :-)
