“Great place on the beach!”

Stayed here for 5 nights and enjoyed it immensely. Right on a beautiful stretch of beach; close to the main part of Sanibel. The staff was extremely helpful and pleasant to deal with--very concerned that we had no issues or problems; very friendly. Accommodations were very nice and clean. We stayed in the Pineapple Gulf View Lodge and had a small balcony where we could sit and see the ocean. There is a pool on site that we enjoyed. Was advised that they are going to be doing some updating to the rooms. They also have cottages available that looked very nice. Bikes to rent are available. We did use the lounge chairs and did have to take them to the beach ourselves but had no problem with them. There is a shell cleaning station for all the WONDERFUl shells you will find.

“Beware of the Condo units (Breakers)”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

I was surprised at all the "glowing remarks" made about this place. Before I get into the lodging itself, I must describe the beach chair situation here; even though the beach is beautiful, you will have to lie on a towel, if you want to use it. Beach chairs are lined up next to the parking lot, off of the beach. THE WATERSIDE WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO TAKE THEIR CHAIRS ONTO THE BEACH, AND YOU CANNOT EVEN SEE THE BEACH OR THE WATER WHILE LAYING IN THEIR BEACH CHAIRS BY THE PARKING LOT. THEIR SIGN SAYS (City ordinance: beach furniture is not allowed on the beach). In my entire 50 year lifetime, I have never been to a beach that prohibits beach chairs. I think think is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of! They do allow dogs on the beach, which is rare. Since dogs are not allowed at the Waterside, I dont think this would be useful to guests.
The condo's here are called "Breakers West". Their website doesn't tell you that this these are not owned by "The Waterside Inn", but in fact are independently owned, and apparently only managed by "The Waterside Inn". The management doesnt seem to care much about providing excellent customer service, for these units, and are at the "mercy" of the owners for decisions regarding the units (repairs, etc.). Our unit did not have enough hot water for a bath (small hot water heater, with heat setting too low.) It was a big deal for them to fix this (took less than 5 minutes, when they got around to it. Gave the usual response "you're the first ones to ever complain about this". This is a canned response that I usually get from "poor customer service" business'. The shower comes on, when you fill the bathtub...too much work to even tell them about this. Not work the effort!
Neither of the 2 pools take advantage of fact that the property is next to the beach. One of the pools SHOULD have been built where the beach access parking lot is, and it could then have chairs and a deck overlooking the ocean, and the prohibition of chairs on the beach wouldnt be an issue. Instead, they built it ibasically in the middle of the central parking area.
If you dont want to lay on the beach (in a chair), and don't take baths, and like the quiet, than this place will fit the bill for you.

So sorry to read your review from your last visit. Let me clear up a few misunderstandings. The beach chairs are located very close to the beach by the shuffleboard court. They are not located in a central parking area as you noted. The chairs are allowed on the beach but the City of Sanibel has ordinaces that require that all beach/pool items are not left on the beach overnight. We ask our guests to please return the chairs that they use when they are done. This is Sanibel's way to protect our fragile wildlife such as sea turtles and nesting birds. You mentioned that Waterside Inn did not accept pets, and that is incorrect. We are a pet friendly resort that accepts small pets in selected units. You are correct in stating that Waterside Inn manages the Breakers West Condos, but unlike your comments, we treat each and every guest as if they were our own. We also disclose that we manage Breakers West on our Website. A comment was made regarding our pool being too far away from the beach. I would like to remind you that we live on a barrier island and along with that comes zoning restrictions. Sanibel has been very diligent to keep the island in a natural state and not let it turn into a Fort Lauderdale or Miami Beach. We believe our swimming pool is placed in a perfect place so as not to disturb our delicate eco-system. Regarding your issue with the hot water, when you called our office in the evening, both our General Manager and Reservationist came to your unit to assist you. When the problem could not be solved to your liking, we offered you another room in which you declined. The next morning, our Maintenance Manager came to your unit to adjust the water temperature. Once again, another unit was offered to you and once again, you declined and said you were fine. At that point, we did nothing further. In conclusion, I regret that your stay on our beautiful island and resort was not to your standards. Our customer service is the best around and we truely care about each and every customer. Hopefully we can prove that to you in the future.

“Great experience all around”

This is our first time staying at the Waterside Inn and we are in love with the place. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. It was an easy walk to the beach and at low tide the shells were plentiful. All of the restaurants and shops were close and easily accessible. We were in the Apricot cottage and it was perfect for the two of us.

What a great review! We appreciate all the good words and are glad that we could make your vacation special. The Apricot cottage is also know as our Honeymoon Cottage! Hopefully our attentive staff and lush tropical setting helped you rekindle your special time on Sanibel Island.

“Great Beach!”

Our fourth time to stay at the Waterside Inn and it was good as usual. The staff is very friendly, the rooms are large and clean, and the location can't be beat. It's a quiet stretch of beach with lots of shells and yet close to restaurants and shops. We like an efficiency on the second floor of the Pineapple Lodge which has a small balcony with a ocean view. This year the pool was fabulous ~ very warm. We had fun walking down the beach for dinner at Traditions and liked breakfast at the Island Cow.

Thank you for taking the time to review Waterside Inn on the Beach. Sounds like you're becoming one of our "long timers" that come every year. We're so happy you were thrilled with Waterside and our staff. Pineapple Lodge is the perfect place to gaze at the wonderful shell studded beach and enjoy the island breezes. We appreciate your business and look forward to seeing you again this year.

“Delightful beachview cottage”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011 via mobile

As with most beach side lodgings, the cottage was overpriced, even for "off season." That said, the location is stellar being just steps from the water. The cottages are bright if a little dated. (Who needs a rusty medicine cabinet?) the bathroom is teeney. Central air is a plus to lower the humidity. The screened in porch is great for sitting out at night - even no-see-ums love paradise. Open the jaulosie windows for gulf breezes and the sound of the waves. Stock up the kitchen to save on eating expenses.

Although we did not use the pool, it looks inviting. Beach chairs and towels are available. The grounds are meticulously kept. The front desk can help arrange activities although we found plenty to do on our own.

We had a great time. Look for Internet specials.

Thank you so much for your kind review. Please note that we are constantly on the look out for items that need a little updating. Thanks to your review, we have taken care of the medicine cabinet. We appreciate your input and hopefully will be seeing you again in the near future (It's 80 degrees today and beautiful!).
