“Great place to stay for families and couples”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

We rented three units in November to celebrate our anniversary with our family. We were only staying four nights and the Sanibel Inn provided the flexibility we needed in terms of length of stay and types of units offered. We had a two bedroom condo for a family of four. It was well equipped with a full kitchen and washer/dryer. The two oceanfront suites had all the essentials for a couple, including microwave, coffee pot, refrigerator and dishes and nice view. All the units were furnished nicely, had a screened-in porch, and everything worked.

It's a smaller property so had a more intimate feel than some places. The grounds were nicely landscaped. The pool was heated, which was nice. You have privileges at the sister Sundial Resort and their pool was not heated and it was quite cool. Several times there weren't pool towels available at the Inn but eventually they got more out. You walk on a wooden walkway over a protective sea grass area to get to the beach. When we were there the beach was uncrowded and there were an adequate number of lounges. The lounges were a little worse for wear cosmetically but they worked fine.

There is a restaurant and pool bar on site which is convenient. We ate at the attractive restaurant for breakfast one day and the food was fine. We ate lunch at the pool one day. The one person working there seemed a little overwhelmed and it took a while to get the order in and get the food, but the food was okay. There are free bikes to use though we didn't try that. Also there are some beach toys for kids.

The Inn will not tell you which building you are in until the day you arrive so you aren't able to check out rooms in advance.

Room Tip: Call the Inn directly for information. The 800 number covers several resorts and isn't located...

“Great setting and excellent service.”

Spent 6 days at the Island Inn and it was a very pleasant experience. The accommodations are not upscale but very nice, clean and comfortable. Bathroom was new and bed was excellent. Housekeeping very good. The property is very well laid out and very well maintained. Nice views from everywhere to the water and a beautiful beach on the property just steps away. Pool is small but nice and in a nice spot on the property. All the staff are very friendly and very accommodating. They want you to have a good experience there and come back.

“Great location. Great potential”

We have stayed here several times before and don't think about looking for anywhere else on Sanibel.

This time we had a Studio Suite Gulf Side. We really like sitting on patio with great view of beach. The location is perfect: right on one of the great beaches in the world for walking/running/seashell collecting (marred on this trip by lots of dead fish probably caused by Red Tide somewhere on Gulf ... come on Sanibel Town Council deal with this ... you are potentially destroying one of your most important assets).

Check-in and check-out were ultra-efficient and friendly

The room we had was comfortable. A couple of not picky points: it would be useful to have more than 2 wine glasses. The floor was a little buckled in kitchen area, worrying point as to whether they are adequately maintaining property.

Another bothersome point is, as other reviewers point out, the relationship between poolside bar and hotel. It seems absurd that you cannot charge. This now extends to the supposed "sister properties". We tried to charge at Sundial to find that's not possible. There is also reluctance on property's restaurant to charge (they are seemingly under different ownership.

Also the fitness center at Sundial is not "fully equipped" as advretired: a set of old aerobic machines, pulley set-up and 2 (yes 2) dumb-bells is not fully equipped today (but the island has an excellent gym with daily membership at $10).

This is a great location. Hopefully, current owners will not rest just on that.

“Peaceful”

We just returned from five days at the Sanibel Inn. I was a little leery after booking online due to some of the reviews but we were quite pleased with our two bedroom condo on the third floor of the Bouganvillea building -no complaints other than having to come home.
The view of the gulf was spectacular. Furnishings looked a bit dated, granted, but the king bed was comfy, the sofa and love seat plush, the bathrooms were spacious. We had a full kitchen which we really appreciated for breakfast and a small washer and dryer which came in handy to get sand off clothes. Service was excellent. When the maid realized I wasn't using the dishwasher but doing dishes by hand she left a dish cloth and tea towel on the counter instead of dishwasher soap, which to me was going the extra mile. The grounds here are lovely, and best of all the environment was peaceful, just what we needed to reconnect as a couple. The inn appeared to be renovating one of the buildings while we were there so maybe they are listening to the reviews about updating. If you can, book a condo. I can't speak about the other rooms. The location is also perfect if you don't want to "fight" island traffic to get to the airport in a hurry as it is right off the causeway. I did see the mold on the beach chairs as others have spoken about. Time to replace them for sure. We walk the beach so that didn't bother me particularly but I did wonder about it. Overall this was a relaxing place to stay. Also loved the Inns drive to be environmentally conscious. Woodpeckers, osprey, pelicans, and shells. I miss Sanibel already.
