“Coming Home!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

This was my fifth visit to the Sanibel Sunset Beach Resort. It was like coming home! Everyone greeted us by name and said how glad they were to see us. The staff is always available to answer questions or to tell you about local happenings. The desk staff knows the answer to most questions but if not, they will get on the computer or phone and find you the answer. The cleaning staff always greets you with a big smile and seem honestly interested in what you did that day. They know we love wildlife so they let us know when the dolphins are nearby or the gopher turtle is out. You can swim in the pool, ride bikes, play tennis or shuffleboard or rent a kayak for a cruise in the gulf. The gulf is just a few steps away from your room. The shelling is wonderful, the wildlife is abundant, the birding is great, the beaches are clean and safe to walk even in the middle of the night as some of us crazy shellers do. The Resort is working hard to be green, something that impresses environmentalists like us. We left with hugs and cries of "see you next year". And they will. Look for us at the Sanibel Sunset Beach Resort next January, we wouldn't go anywhere else.

“Great beach getaway”

Spent two nights at Sanibel Sunset Beach Resort. Exceptional on site staff. Helpful and friendly. Wonderful linens at this moderately priced property. White, pressed sheets and soft pillows with a touch of down we were told. Large white fluffy towels for pool and bath. We were in a comfortable suite with 2 BR and 2 Baths. Perfect for two couples. Walked the beach and sat at the heated pool. Enjoyed wine and cheese before heading to dinner at Sweet Melissa's which we very much enjoyed. Ate breakfast on the balcony.
Breakfast is fine if you are okay with pastries, bagels, cold cereal and coffee. We opted to head for Jerry's market for hearty muffins and fruit and made coffee in our room. How nice to have a refrigerator in the suite.
The hotel is working on updates and carpets still need refreshing. Bikes need refreshing too. But for the money, the quiet location and beach access with chairs and umbrellas cannot be beat in a tourist community with only one chain hotel.
We will return next year to bird watch at Ding Darling and beach comb. We expect improvements to continue. We are fine without room service, beach bar and restaurant on site.

Room Tip: Ask for sunset view and maybe second floor.

“Great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Centrally placed, just yards from the beach and a great sunrise view from the room. I feel the property has just had a bit of refurbishment and as a result is very tidy. Good big rooms with kitchenette with fridge, cooker and microwave crockery etc. ideal for longer stays when you don't want to pay Sanibel restaurant prices every nite. Really comfy beds. Great for getting to Ding Darling centre and going on up to Captiva. Very obliging and helpful reception. Breakfast is included in price but is basic and don't forget to take your tray to reception when you fetch it. Nice ish pool. Good value, I will stay again

Room Tip: Sunrise room on first floor was good for me and has a screened balcony

“Good position, with room for improvement”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Yes, I know that Sanibel is expensive, but for 320$ a night I wish there was a more complete breakfast than just a few things on a table in the reception room. Such as real orange juice, more fruit choice, etc.
Bikes are for free, but the ones which were left when we wanted to ride them were unusable wrecks, the one for our kid had the brakes not working.
For the rest the accomodation was fine, nice rooms, pool, a few meters to the beach, and a helpful lady manager.

“Best value on Sanibel Island!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

Earlier this month, my sister and I had the pleasure of staying overnight at the Sanibel Sunset Beach Resort while visiting the "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge. While I chose this resort online, sight unseen, largely for its price and proximity to the refuge, I was delighted with the property. The staff were friendly and helpful, allowing us an early check-in so that we could get to the sunset boat cruise at "Ding" Darling. Then, they upgraded our room to a spacious two-bed suite with full kitchen, complete with a great view from the balcony. While we didn't use the pool or other amenities, I can honestly say that this was the perfect spot for us (and my sister operated a motel on Anna Maria Island for over 20 years, so she is something of an expert in beachfront properties). We liked our room so much that we ordered pizza (suggested by the staff) and burrowed into our comfortable beds. The room was clean, not over-decorated with seashell motifs, and comfortable. A great value! I hope to return soon. (And don't miss the refuge if you like all things "nature.")

Room Tip: We had originally booked the four-steps-down room but were upgraded to the next floor, so we had a b...
