“Renter at your own risk - quality of condos is highly variable”

What a great location on Sanibel Island, what a terrible experience. We rented through the Sundial and paid extra to make sure that we rented a property that was contained in their rental program thinking they would only allow condos that were in good shape to be in their rental program. Billed and priced as a luxury resort and experience, we were shocked at the condition of the condominium. Rusted out refrigerator, rusted out dishwasher, holes in the screens, broken fixtures, non-functioning burners on the stove, patched up tubs. We were shocked. Reported and showed the pictures to the Sundial and they said they were fixing and replacing those items after we left, just a little late for us. When asked why they would have such a unit in their rental program, they said it is taking time to update all of the units. The answer is- they can charge around $400 per night and good luck if you get un updated condo. I would strongly suggest renter think twice before renting from the Sundial.

“Not a good place to stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Upon our arrival of our 2 bedroom condo for 3 adults, we noticed the botchy, stained carpeting and 2 burned out lights. Upon reporting the burned out lights, the light bulbs were replaced. Condo was large as described. Furniture was adequate, however the second bedroom furniture finish is worn and needs refinished or replaced. After traveling all day, we each wanted a nice warm shower. But this was not to be. After the first person had a nice 12 - 15 min. shower, the next person ran out of hot water and this was reported. A maintenance man came over and turned up the hot water heater. The next morning we wanted coffee and the kitchen was only equipped with 2 mugs. We were able to secure 2 more mugs. The third person in the morning got their shower that they couldn't get the night before and we continued on with our vacation. The master bathroom door didn't latch and one of the electrical outlets was messed up in the master bedroom but we didn't report those as we had already been complaining.. Then, there were little bugs on the nightstand, I know this is FL, but every FL place I have stayed in has kept them under control. We did inform the front desk about this, plus the hot water was not fixed. They sprayed for bugs and hot water heater was turned up again. When we put our towels on the floor to be taken away, they were, but not replaced. Again we called the front desk and then we got some. This happened 3 times our stay, we called twice about it. The third time we did not. We had occasion to use the garbage disposal and much to my chagrin, this did not work. I informed them and was told it would be fixed. It never was. I talked to the on duty manger on the 7th day of our 10 day stay about the lack of hot water, which was quite annoying. I was informed that a professional was coming to look at it. It was improved after that, but still inadequate. The whole 10 day stay we never had enough hot water. Upon leaving, I took a picture of the hot water heater and it was a smaller tank than the manager thought it was(he thought it was 35 gal.) and Whirlpool recommends its usage for 1 - 2 people, not the 2 - 6 that could potentially occupy a condo of that size. The manager threw me a peanut, a $75 credit on a $4000 stay. Stay there again? No, never again.

Room Tip: Read reviews and go to a highly recommended place, not #21 on a list of 33.

“More Choices than you may be aware of !!!”

Your stay at the Sundial Beach Resort can be done one of three ways: Rent through Sundial and get access to all facilities at the resort without additional cost, BUT you WILL pay more than the other options . You can look for websites of owners on the internet or contact Rental Real Estate companies to rent individual units at Sundial. Rental costs should be lower than going through Sundial Resort . All units have free pool access to a pool (very close to your condo) but not to Sundial Resort's main pool. if you wish to use Sundial Resort's pool and Har-Tru tennis courts you will pay an extra fee. My understanding is Sundial Resort is currently for sale so details could change if the Resort is sold. The BEST option is the one i have used the past 3 years for my family, RENT your condo through VRBO.com (Vacation Rentals by Owner). Renting this way normally gives you the lowest cost to rent a unit at Sundial. You will have a pool nearby (for us renting O-205 it was a 2 min walk). The beach was just beyond the pool. We had a nice view of the gulf from our screened lanai. To play tennis at Sundial cost $$$ by the hour or you could take lessons for a very reasonable rate. I believe you can also rent court time at Beachview Tennis Club for a reasonable hourly rate. (2min drive -5 min walk) The choice is yours! My stay this year was Nov 20-30, 2011

Room Tip: At Sundial East Bldgs L-T, the higher the last digit the closer you are to the beach/Gulf (ex: unit...

Resort always appreciates repeat guests and welcomes their comments. There are many options on the Sundial property which covers three addresses: 1401, 1451, 1501 Middle Gulf Dr., and, certainly we hope everyone finds the best fit for their families. Our guests are number one and we want whatever suits them the best.

“Beautiful resort and beautiful location”

We had a 1 bedroom condo (G407). The rooms were clean, bedding comfortable. Ample room for 3 adults. The bathroom was small but up to date. Our unit overlooked the garden, but the beach was visible from our screened lanai. We were a short walk to the beach and main building. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food at the restaurant was good. If you are looking for a quiet vacation at the beach, this is a wonderful place to stay!

“Disappointing”

Views and walks on the beach sublime. MBR had a double bed in it when king was confirmed. Offered us another unit a day in to vacation (which only came about after we kept complaining), but this took us far away from family, so no go. Front desk was argumentative about the problem saying that it was our travel agent's mistake despite confirmation for king bed being on Sundial letterhead that we provided to them. Service at poolside dining was sooooooo slow and our food orders were rarely right when they arrived. Just didn't get the feel that this was resort as much as it is a condo association trying to eke out some rental activity.

Room Tip: Apparently you need some sort of notary public confirmation to get bed type requested in order to ge...

Always so sad when guest needs and desires are not met. At our resort, we do consider our guests number one and want to always be pleasing for them. Sincere apology for not meeting our goal in this case.
