Visited here for one night. What a magnificent hotel. Love the Chihuly glass and the architecture around the hotel. Very grand and "old world". The history of the place is amazing. Take the free tour of the hotel in the afternoon if you get a chance. Well worth it.
Good:
Service seemed very prompt and attentive. Had lunch and breakfast in the dining room and was pleased with both of my meals, however, I specifically asked for no dairy in both of my meals and they both came with cheese on them (they were cheerfully returned and redone).
Sitting on the veranda for a drink and watching the world go by was fantastic, Loved the coziness of the porch.
The hotel was right in the middle of the downtown core, which had tons of restaurants and shopping and art, just steps away.
Room was small, but efficient. Looks like it was updated a bit in the last few years. Bathroom was spacious and a separate toilet room was nice.
Not so good:
Room was directly behind a service room for the staff. Realized this at approximately 10:15pm when the walls were banging and slamming. Got up to see what the commotion was about, and realized it was a work room for the staff (lockers and coffee makers and such). I wanted.. and would have called the front desk to move me, but my HB was sleeping and I wasn't going to wake him to pack up and move. So needless to say I got about 3 hours of sleep..urgh! It got a bit quieter during the night, but about 4:30am it started again, with vengeance.
Upon checkout when handing my key, I was hoping I would get the standard "how was your stay?" and I would have suggested that the staff be more quiet.... but got a very cool "thank you for the key" and nothing else. So my two cents goes here on trip advisor.
Overall, If you are planning a trip, request a room in the main hotel (seemed nicer) on a top floor away from any employee work room. The rooms on the harbor side seemed nicer (view) we had a rear view, which didn't bother me. Enjoy a drink on the porch. Eat in the main dining room (very nice). Enjoy St. Pete and all the shops and arts it has to offer by foot. Very pedestrian friendly area (bring sneakers). The pier was a nice visit, but very dated. Must see the Dali museum.
