“Perfect location, lots of plusses, service a bit uneven”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

The location is superb, our room was spacious and clean, the beds were supremely comfortable (with foam and feather pillows, excellent!), and the room was quieter than any hotel room we've ever stayed in. The included breakfast was fine if a bit dull. We would love to give this hotel a sold A+ except for the staff. Whether we were dealing with the valet parking attendants or the front desk, most of the time service was polite yet cold, dismissive, or distracted. (And a few times openly hostile.) However, the housekeeping staff were all sweet and welcoming, and Derek the valet was a stellar standout: friendly, kind, and helpful.

We are far from elderly retirees, but unfortunately, we got the impression that the front-of-house staff are all young people who dislike their jobs and have a knee-jerk disdain for anyone over 30. However, the positives outweigh the negatives here, and the location is unbeatable.

Thank you for taking the time to post your thoughts. Although you rated our hotel positive, I am concerned about the comments you made regarding our service levels. It is true, we do have a young front desk staff, but most guests report that they are very genuine and friendly to all guests. I will certainly be sharing your comments with our staff and working to improve moral and customer service levels. Thanks again.

“The Perfect Location & A Great Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

I hosted a 3 day meeting for about 50 people at this Hampton Inn & Suites and I received nothing but compliments. First of all, it doesn't look like your typical Hampton Inn. They're located in a Mediterranean style building in a very nice part of downtown St. Pete. The lobby and the meeting rooms are huge upgrades from most Hampton Inns. Many of the people in our group did not rent a car because they could walk to many close by restaurants and attractions. Beach Street and Central are bustling with activity and people in the evenings. The hotel is near the boat slips, the Pier, Dali Museum and much more. What made the stay even more enjoyable was the staff at the hotel. From the front desk personnel, management, breakfast room, bell staff, valet, etc., they were professional, friendly and attentive to every need. Anyone staying here will not be disappointed.

I am very excited by your posting. As we only have 91 rooms, your group occupied over half the hotel! To hear that everyone was pleased is a major accomplishment and now a source of pride for me and my staff. We look forward to hosting your next business function and hopefully you can sneak down here on a leisure visit. Thank you.

“As Always... Thank You Guys For Being Here !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

From the time Patrick takes my keys, to the time he brings my car up front when requested, the Hampton has become our home away from home. After residing in St Pete for many many years, I would recomend this downtown Hampton to friends and family without hesitation. I recently overheard some folks there for a family funeral complaining about the value for price, but I could tell, they were gonna complain about anything that didn't come free or government subsedized. This is a great value stay. I've stayed here no less than twenty-five nights in the last couple of years and and I've been to many other hotels from the beaches to Tampa and Daytona. At times, I wish this hotel were on St Pete Beach, but, it's St Pete's downtown nightlife I enjoy, and the location is perfect for this. Patrick parks the car on Thursday or Friday, and brings it back Sunday. We walk the streets for all we need over the weekend.
Complimentary Hampton breakfast, although adequate, is nothing special. I often wonder why they cant kick it up a notch and supply some better quality morning munchies, but surely it's a corporate thing. It's still "good enough", but not for more than 2 days straight. Remember it's broke down promptly at 9:59 and not a minute later. Not so kind to us late night owl's sleeping off the prior evenings poison. Thank goodness coffee is available later on.
The clean accomidations, location and comfy bedding keep us comming back and the staff remembering us is a really nice touch. My room requests are usually met (if available) without upcharges which also equates to me spending more nights here when we could have gone elsewhere. In turn for them not upcharging me ,they get more of our money in the long run (ok with us).
The only thing I would change is an extended breakfast time. But that's not likely to happen. An occasional comp waiting in my room as simple as a couple bottles of water, candy, or a snack item would be a nice gesture recognizing my loyalty and thousands of Hilton Honors points we have accumulated would probably lock us in forever. But they have us hooked anyhow! LoL. Thank you guys for putting up with us wild ones!!!

Good bars within walking distance:
* The Saki Bomb (Central & 7th)
* Mastry's (Central & 2nd)
* Durty Nelliy's (1/2 block west)
* The Flamingo (1 block west next to Jannus)

Good Eats:
* Cevichi' (behind hotel)
* $5 Cafe (Central & 2nd)
* Publix Grocery (about 4th St. South and 3rd Ave)
* Pizza (Central & 3rd)
* The Vinoy has one of the worlds best Sunday brunches. It's expensive but truly un-
forgetable. Plan on spending about 2 hrs there! Call for a reservation.

Room Tip: Be sure you are not calling the 34 street Hampton for a reservation. This is the downtown Hampton.

“Great stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

We were in town for a concert and picked this hotel because it was in walking distance of the State Theater.

Great choice.

First off, the hotel itself was terrific. The room was clean and quiet. (One issue - the curtain rod (one of those bowed rods that are so excellent) was broken so that the "bow" was leaning downward and the curtain wanted to gather right in the middle. As a result, water could get out of each end. We informed the housekeeper on our floor as we were leaving. When we got to the front desk and mentioned it we were told that the housekeeper had called it in and maintenance was on the way. I was impressed they got on it so fast!)

Secondly, the immediate area was really nice. Lots of restaurants, bars, and shops. Beautiful area to walk around in.

Finally, the walk to the concert hall was safe and filled with bars and restaurants.

One last thing. The breakfast at the Hampton was as good as I've had anywhere. Fresh-made waffles, omelets, bagels, oatmeal, fruit... all good.

When we return to St. Petersburg, we will plan our trip around staying at this hotel.

Thanks Hampton!
