“Wow! An un discovered treasure on the St. Pete Waterfont!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2011

Hotel staff was very accomodating. I could tell that they had a personal commitment to ensure my stay was great. The room was like an apartment and very tastefully decorated with high poster beds and what a view. The restaurant was great, casual dining and a variety of beverages to choose from. I chose to sit outdoors and enjoy the waterfront view. Beautiful!!!!!!

“The worst hotel we've ever stayed in”

We booked Grayl's hotel based on previous trip advisor postings. I understand that it's under new management which might explain the differing experience we had. As far as the physical interior of the rooms is concerned they are in desperate need of a re-fit, they are circa early 1990's which noisy tired air conditioning units. The room was entered through the bathroom, by the toilet.
The hotel is above a noisy bar which played loud live music until late into the night, accompanied by the loud screaming of the patrons. Only finally being silenced by a thunderstorm.
We were advised that the hotel provided a continental breakfast, but the following morning there we no staff in the building. We eventually let the cleaner in ourselves, no other staff appeared before we left at about 9am, simply leaving our keys on the desk.
We made our opinions known to the cleaner about our experiences, she said she would pass this onto the management. The least i expected was an apology email, and a partial refund for our awful experience of this $150 a night hotel. But nothing, we can only assume they couldn't care less about their guests experiences. The internet also didn't work in our room, and one of the blinds wouldn't open but in context they're minor complaints.
Do not stay at this hotel, there are many better ones in St Petersburg.

“Location, location, location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2011 via mobile

Great location for those aiming to be in the heart of downtown. Great, friendly staff. Attention to design detail leaves a little to be desire. Wood working finish, cabling needs to be hidden better. Bright room (not condusive to sleeping in late). CRTv. The knick nacks are a little between "gramma's house" and Santa Fe. Some may call it eclectic. Over all a great hotel for those looking for a nice weekend getaway.

“Non-service oriented, disappointing experience.”

This hotel looked so promising from a previous visit to the area. Our room was mostly lovely but everything else was odd. It's obviously a small hotel with a small staff, but it was hard to find someone at the desk, and when we did the feeling was we were somehow imposing on them. The vibe was extremely casual and non-service oriented. I asked to have working light bulbs put in over my bedside, mentioned the slow draining sink, and nothing changed during our 3 night stay. They advertise free WIFI but after asking for help we still didn't get it in our room. Our room was in a very strange location, and seemed to be the only one that opened out onto a pubic area; in fact someone looking for their room walked directly into our room since our door didn't lock automatically. Also, it seemed the staff would hang out and smoke very close to our room. At $160 a night plus $10 parking, we expected more. The room was decorated nicely but the mattress was too soft and the sheets unremarkable. I think we'd be better off at a chain.
