“The perfect family getaway!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

Tradewinds is a very family friendly resort on the beach. Your children can enjoy the "mile high slide," the obstacle course in the water, and playing on the beach or one of the pools on the resort. The resort has pedal boats, sand volleyball and a few other activities included in your resort fee. Cabanas are also included in the resort fee, so Mom and Dad can enjoy some R&R while the kids are busy! Tradewinds does have a "kids Club" (daycare filled with activities for the kids). They also have schedules activities at the main pool, ie belly flop contest, card games, hula hoop contests etc, for children and any adults who are brave enough.
There is a pirate show for kids, but it seems kind of scary and strange to me. It is not the most wholesome performance I have seen. It is very loud and obnoxious!
The food is average. We have found some wonderful resaurants close by. Verducci's is authentic Italian, which has handmade pasta and homemade bread, everything is made fresh and amazing! Vito&Michael's is fabulous pizza, open until 3am every night. Beverly's has the best breakfast around. Publix grocery and a dollare store are within walking distance of the resort, for extra sunscreen or anything you might of forgotten to bring with you.
Tradewinds is a great family getaway!

Room Tip: If you like the pool, request by the pool, but know that it will be noisier. If you have children y...

“Roaches and non flushing toilets...need I say more?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012 via mobile

This place is way over-rated. The toilet in our room wouldn't flush. I immediately noticed that the carpet didn't look like it had been vacuumed lately, which was just confirmed when I discovered a dead roach belly up on the floor by the bed. The hotel staff seemed neither concerned or surprised. Needless to say we didn't spend the night.

As the Director of Guest Satisfaction please accept an apology on behalf of all the TradeWinds employees and myself for the situation you experienced while here. After reviewing your folio I see that you did have issues with the first room in which the toilet wasn’t functioning properly. I’m glad to see that we had another room ready for you immediately, however this had the unwanted insects. I hope that you will agree that we have provide a very tropical environment and surroundings with the landscape, flowerbeds, palm trees and others. This however does create the opportunity of habitat for other insects, which are impacted with the changes in weather just as we are. Seeing that the temperature dropped dramatically for the first time this winter, it did cause an increase in the reported sightings of insects attempting to seek warmer surroundings.

In an effort to show our concern for this unfortunate situation, your folio was documented and a credit was made to your account. TradeWinds has made a commitment to ensure complete guest satisfaction and it is my personal goal to make sure that I have regained your trust for business in the future. I have attempted to contact your directly and I hope that we could discuss this further. I hope that you will not let this one instance prevent you from staying at the TradeWinds on your next trip to St. Pete Beach. We welcome the opportunity to leave you with a much better impression. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of any further assistance in the future.

“A little dated”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

As we are planning our next vacation to the Clearwater area I am reminded of our stay at the Tradewinds last April. This hotel is located in a great area of St Petersburg. However the facility itself was a little dated and worn.

When we checked in we we're assured that we were being given a nice room. It was located in a neighboring building. Upon entry into the room the we're disappointed that there was not a balcony. The bellman attempted to open the window and the latches were broke and it would not budge. There was also a layer of glare reducing plastic tearing off of the window (it reminded me of car windows in the 80s). We immediately upgraded to a suite by the pool.

The layout and location of the suite was great. However the room was very dated and smelled like someone had thrown up in between the beds.

The aspect that prohibits me from returning is that there seemed to be a lot of locals "crashing the pool". There was a woman on the phone arranging for her friend to drop off her kids at the pool to swim. The pool was much busier on the weekend than other days. Typically in a hotel these are heavy travel days! It would be nice if the hotel monitored this and had guests wear bracelets like many others do. It was hectic trying to play with and watch my 3 year old in the pool. It was too crowded.

The valet staff was very nice and helpful. They gave suggestions about great places to visit and eat.

Room Tip: The main building above the lobby had renovated rooms at the time. Ask for one of these.

“Enjoyable Retreat on the Gulf”

I've stayed at the Tradewinds 3 times and loved each visit. The kids enjoyed the paddle boats, feeding the Koi and the activities. We love the hammocks and swings by beautiful St Pete Beach. It is nice that they have adult only areas as well. The Hotel is always clean with friendly service. The location is great with shops and resaraunts in walking distance. The food and drink on the premises and room service was spectaclar. I can't wait to go again someday.

“On the Beach, Friendly Staff, Great stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I spent a week at the Grand Island TradeWinds and enjoyed it very much. It's spacious and yet feels quite comfortable. A couple of buildings connected by lovely walk ways. Access to the beach is immediate with lots of cabanas. Room faced the gulf which is a great view and one can hear the waves at night. Bar out by the pools. Can't wait to go back in October.

Staff goes out of their way to make you comfortable. There are a variety of restaurants with different menus and price points. Lots of restaurants in walking distance. There's a Walgreens and Publix within blocks.

My complaints are small - I tried to use my towels more than once, but the staff replaced them daily although I followed the instructions for re-use. There was no television channel directory which made it difficult to find a particular station and the sleep function on the television didn't work. Otherwise the room was perfect.

The resort fee covers parking and a variety of things.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less beach noise.
