We have stayed at the Vista's on the Gulf in Unit 404 exclusively for the last 4 years. Prior to that, we tried many of the top rated beach resorts in the area. There is a tremendous difference between staying in a condo unit on the beach vs staying in a hotel room on the beach. Be warned though, once you start vacationing "condo style" it's impossible to go back to the small, cramped hotel rooms. At the Vista's, with 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths, full kitchen, washer/dryer, living room, balcony....we have all the room necessary to unpack, unwind and relax into the vacation. The owners of Unit 404 keep the unit very clean, modern and well-appointed. We stumbled upon their unit on the vrbo.com site and feel very fortunate. The Knowlton's are reliable and accommodating owners who take much pride in sharing their St. Pete Beach home...the extra's they provide can be seen and felt which is why we continue to return not just to the Vista's, but to their unit.
We travel "off-season" and find that the cost of the condo is equivalent to the cost of similar hotel accommodations (i.e. 2 hotel rooms). Keep in mind these condo's have 2 bedrooms and sleep 6. The Vista's are beachfront...you are steps from the Gulf of Mexico. Within walking distance of shops, stores and restaurants by street or beach. We've gone to dinner plenty of times by walking barefoot down the beach for outside dining while the sun sets. I mean, really, what more could you be looking for? Did I mention the dolphins?
In staying at the Vista's, here's what you should be aware of...
Each unit is individually owned. This review reflects our experience with unit 404.
The units are numbered according to their actual beachfront status...so low numbers are closer to the front of the beach. If view is important to you, keep this in mind. But remember, the entire building is on the beach.
The 2nd bedroom is smaller than the other. They're not identical.
You're in a condo building at the Vista's and while there's a pool and a grilling area, the Vista's don't have their own beach bar or restaurant. But I PROMISE, these things are all steps away.
Adjacent to the Vista's on the Gulf, south side, is a bigger condo unit which interferes with morning sun at the pool. Trivial, I know, but this is my vacation mentality....isn't it nice when this is the biggest problem of your day. Easy solution though as you have an entire beach as a back up plan.
Finally, when outside, you're aware of and can hear road noise. The units themselves are pretty sound proof but outside you get an occasional siren or some such thing.
That's it, the long and short of it....not embellished...not glamorized. The real star here is St. Pete Beach. The Vista's have become our own little piece of that special place.
Room Tip: The units are numbered from the beach to the road. For example, 401 is beachfront while 410 is clos...
