We stayed here for a wedding we we attended at the Don Cesar. This hotel is a few blocks from the actual Don Cesar -- a bit too far to walk. Our stay was average. The pool area was nice and having a suite versus a regular hotel room worked great for our family. The rooms are quite dated and worn, but clean. This hotel also charges a $25 per day resort fee, which I find very annoying. We booked through Travelocity and thought our stay was completely paid for. Come to find out we owed an additional $25 per day for this bogus fee.
Based on comments left by other reviewers, we were not surprised by the worn and torn furnishings. There was a leak above the patio door during a heavy rain, and 1 broken toilet, and a broken kitchen drawer. The hotel was immediately responsive. This place has more the feel of a family owned and operated resort than prestigious hotel chain....if you are fortunate enough to own a family cottage and you don't regularly replace worn furnishings, and don't mind torn upholstery, then you know what I mean. The beach was lovely, and the view from our terrace was wonderful. We saw no "critters" or dust, but furniture and bath fixtures that are old and worn can make you germaphobic in a hotel room. Most of the staff were pleasant and helpful....a couple of them need to stay on the night shift.
Just a few steps away from the beach, rooms include a living room, dining area, full kitchen, washer & dryer, large balcony overlooking the Gulf, and free internet access. This is great place to stay for families or groups traveling together such as family reunions & weddings, or the business traveler staying in the area for an extended amount of time. In spite of the fact that the hotel was full when I was there, it was very quiet at night. There is a little pool bar, shuffleboard and ping pong.
My husband and I stayed here with our 5 year old for Spring Breakl. We actually booked our stay with priceline, so we got a great price! We loved the fully equipped kitchen, including microwave, coffee pot, toaster, stove, refrigerator anod dishwasher. Dishes were also included! We stayed on the 2nd floor, but still had a great view of the pool, and ocean. The staff was more than polite, always offering to give us suggestions of where to eat, and directions. The room was very clean, not real modern, but very functional and clean. We also had a washer and dryer in the room, that was nice to have. The only complaint I have, is that our hotel room door was very difficult to open! you had to pull pretty hard. The beaches are BEAUTIFUL, and not crowded at all. Our son really enjoyed the pool, shuffleboard, and ping pong! We hope to stay here again next year!
