“Only Average Poor Customer Commitment and Service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

My wife and I stayed at this property for Her company's Christmas Party. Although it was painful making the reservation (the hotel never really gave their lowest or best value rate at first Bad rate integrity), we arrived and none of our requests were honored when we checked in at first causing us to decline our original room assignment. Once this was straightened out we were assigned a room as was first requested (5 month advance reservation).

The room was spacious and had adequate seating and lighting, but there was a small spider and a bug in the closet. The bathroom with large shower was in working order and I liked the granite bar next to the bed. There was a coffee maker as well.

I was not impressed with the onsite Starbucks as it only offered regular coffee and few specialty drinks. The bar and gathering area in the lobby was nice. The pool (outside) and nearby Wold Golf Hall of Fame are nice, but that is all that is in the immediate area except for the Caddy Shack Restaurant (above average).

I did like the convenient shuttle to downtown St Augustine. It inspired us to move down the road to the King & Bear Golf Course for our second night at Laterra Resort a much better choice overall.

The serenity of the Laterra spa lifestyle and the ancient tradition of golf, the Laterra Resort at the King and Bear is lavish living at its best and much better service than the World Golf Renaissance.

Room Tip: You will want a resort facing room on a floor higher than 7

Although I am sorry to hear that there were issues regarding the reservation requests I am glad that you were pleased with our shuttle service and other guest offerings. I am happy to hear that you were able to explore the World Golf Village area and enjoy the serenity.

“This place never disappoints.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

Always stay at this hotel when traveling to Florida. The suites are nicely decorated and extremely large.
Staff is always friendly and helpful. Am always impressed when they tell me they appreciate me staying with them again and that my complimentary platinum upgrade suite awaits. Great views of World Golf Village from the western balconies. Great buffet breakfast in hotel restaurant.

Room Tip: Watch the sunset over World Golf Village on the western side or sunrise or a shuttle launch from the...

“A very nice hotel, but the nickel-and-diming was annoying”

A friend and I recently had a guys weekend playing golf at the World Golf Village and found a terrific package through the Renaissance. All in all, this is a very nice facility with friendly people at the check-in desk and the breakfast room. The rooms were clean and well-kept, with comfortable bedding and a nice bathroom. Breakfast in the morning was outstanding.

There were a couple of things though that took the polish off this hotel. I have still never understood why free wi-fi is offered at roadside inns and motels and not at a four-star hotel. Charging 13 dollars a day for wireless access just really seems ridiculous. Also, cording off a significant portion of the parking in front of the hotel for valet services seems quite ridiculous, when the hotel was at less than 25% capacity. I'm sure this is done to maximize tips for service employees, but no one staying at the hotel was using this service.

I'd stay here again, but wish that the nickel-and-diming was not as blatant as it was on the golf courses we played on.

“Perfect place”

Spent the Christmas holiday in St. Augustine, FL. Stayed at this hotel as they offered a terrific FL resident rate. While not in the heart of downtown St. Aug., they offer a shuttle to the action at timely hours. The drivers were terrific. The check-in was warm, friendly and efficient. The room was beautiful. The bed was one of the most comfortable, ever! We enjoyed the restaurant for dinner our 1st night. Fantastic food!!! The buffet breakfast is divine with high quality offerings. All of the staff we dealt with deserve high praise for their warmth, humor and efficiency. We are not golfers so can't comment on the course or golf amenities but every guest we saw appeared quite happy and satisfied. St. Aug. is a blast, too. We will, for sure, return to this hotel.

“Lovely Hotel, Horrible Guests”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

My husband and I booked an overnight stay during the week between Christmas and New Year's. In theory, it worked out perfectly. I would be able to see St. Augustine decorated in Christmas lights and my husband could sneak in a round of golf in the morning. Although just off the highway, the resort seems a world removed. The grounds are impressive, and the Hall of Fame museum and the fun Caddyshack restaurant are within walking distance. The hotel lobby is expansive, and the glass elevators add a nice touch. Our room was standard. The beds were comfy, and the bathroom was large. It was spotlessly clean. We had a postage stamp size view, but our stay was short so that did not matter. Under normal circumstances, the most negative thing I could say was that the shower drain was amazingly slow.

All that changed the following morning. I stayed in the lobby for an hour after check-out waiting for my husband to finish his round of golf. There was a convention at the hotel and evidently the hotel lobby was the playground for their children. As a parent and former teacher, I love kids but the behavior I saw exhibited was disgusting. The beautiful furniture was turned into trampolines. There was running, yelling, commandeering of elevators, hoarding of computers. The little adult supervision there was seemed concentrated on the babies in strollers and I never heard any attempt at discipline, only benign smiles. When the hotel staff did try to step in, they were met with a language barrier. I still believe, however, that "NO" conveys in any language. I left disgruntled and feeling like a misfit.

In retrospect, I did get to see St. Augustine spectacularly dressed up for Christmas and my husband did enjoy his round of golf. But I would never book at this hotel for the holiday season again. This convention has booked the hotel for the last three years and I don't ever want a repeat performance. It truly is a shame that the actions of some can spoil it for others.
