I booked my room for three nights several days in advance. Upon arrival I told the clerk I had a Chihuahua. He told me they didn't have a room, because I had a pet. He complained that I should have called in advance to say I had a pet. I told him I was an Elite Gold Card member and never had to call in advance before any stay. He finally relented, gave me a room and told me to keep the dog quiet. The room was hot, humid, and next to the hotel laundry room. It had a view of a cement wall. My wife went to the desk to see if we could get a room change and the desk clerk told her we should be happy we had a room at all. After the rudeness of two desk clerks now, I decided to check out the next day. I went to the desk clerk to inform him that I would be checking out the following day. He was stuffing his face with a sub and told me (with a mouth full of food) that I had to check out before 11:00am. Earlier in the day I saw the same clerk smoking a cigarette in the hotel lobby doorway, propping the door open with his foot. It was a cold night, so I turned on the room heater, which began to smoke, causing the room smoke detectore to go off. We had to open the door to air out the room, then suffer through a cold night stay. In all my years of using Choice hotels, this hotel staff was the most rude! I will never stay there again!

Good, clean hotel. Hot breakfast. Clean and comfortable.

The Quality Inn boasts of being in the Historic District of St Augustine, however you need a car to get to the Historic sites. Neither the tourist Trolley, or the tourist Train stop at this hotel, you must arrange for a pickup. Their so called hot breakfast consists of a flat yellow disk which is supposed to be an egg, (never see a chicken), and a sausage patty. The rooms leave alot to be desired, first room A/C inoperable, unable to unlock room which the staff tried unsuccessfully to unlock. After 2 hours they finally called a locksmith to work on the problem. Carpets need replacement, shower water lukewarm.

I can't believe we almost passed up staying here due to reviews.

My family and I did a 2 day 1 night mini trip to St. Augustine from Miami FL. We had the greatest time!

PROS: The rooms are large, two of us had connecting rooms. The breakfast was good, a nice varieties. The staff was friendly and helpful with things to do. Best of all the hotel was centrally located, we were able to walk into town.

CON: The room smelled a little muggy when you first step in.

When visiting St Augustine in December keep in mind it's much colder then Miami-we were grateful for the air conditioner/heater in the room :)
