We stayed at the Crescent Silver Sands Motel in June of 2010. We stayed in the beach house, which is attached to the side of the motel. We rented the house for five nights, and when we were there it was badly in need of repairs and the rooms were very dark and dingy. The house had somewhat of a moldy smell, and did not appear to be very clean. The furniture was very outdated, the floor/carpet had not been swept before we arrived, and the refrigerator door would not shut completely. Needless to say, we were greatly disappointed when we arrived.
Though we were not impressed with the house, the location of this motel is AMAZING! It is located very close to the beach and we were able to walk to the beach everyday. The beach is beautiful and it was very peaceful the entire time we were here. In fact, we probably saw three or four families on the beach the entire time we were there. In addition, the hotel staff was very friendly and allowed us to borrow their beach umbrellas and beach chairs to take to the beach.
To sum it up, we had a great vacation. We were able to enjoy the peaceful beach, yet still be close to St. Augustine. While we were there we visited several of the St. Augustine landmarks, like the Castillo de San Marcos, the St. Augustine Lighthouse, Fort Matanzas, and we took a carriage tour of the city.
Though I would NEVER stay in the beach house again, while we were there, we were able to look inside the apartment and the motel rooms, and they looked much better than our beach house. They appeared to be much cleaner and more up to date. I would definitely come back to this motel, as long as I could stay in the apartment or a motel room.
I would say, stay away from the beach house, unless it gets renovated, but don't stay away from this hotel!
My experience at the Crescent Silver Sands Motel was wonderful! I didn't want to leave, it was so peaceful and relaxing. The beach was never crowded. The manager was wonderful and very helpful and gave us great advice on what tourist attractions to see and best places to eat. We stayed in the beach house, we had 6 people with us and we fit wonderfully in the house with plenty of room left. The location was also good, just a few minutes from St. Augustine city center. The best thing about the whole vacation was the privacy and relaxation on the beach. I've already made my reservations for this summer and can't wait to return again and again.
My family spent two nights at the Crescent Silver Sands Motel on our way back from Disney World and it was the best decision we could have made! We spent New Years Eve on the beach watching fireworks going off at St Augustine, and didn't have to deal with the traffic!! We were traveling with four young children who loved the freedom of the wide open beach and even found a sand turtle living on the walkway from the motel to the beach. We are already planning our next trip and are encouraging the extended family to book a room at the same time so we can enjoy this fabulous find together!
I have finally found an inexpensive vacation spot that offers something for everyone. I can take my fishing poles and catch whiting off the shore line, while my wife sits and reads a book. My kids like catching the "bait". We have been here twice and have hated to leave. We like the privacy and the convienence of being close to the ocean. You can even drive on the beach! Be sure to check out the historical sites that are always a joy to explore.
