“Exactly what we expected”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

Stayed here for two nights over Christmas. The kids loved the toys in the living room and the pancakes. I appreciated the care to offer real gluten free pancakes for my daughter with celiac. I had to explain a bit how to be truly gluten free (eg don't use the same pan, unless you cook the gluten free pancakes firt) but that is typical. It was great to be in the middle of things and I didn't find it too noisy. Personally I like the informal European style of the place although I know that is not for everyone. Would definitely stay again.

“Excellent location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We found this hostel a little difficult to locate at first but some fellow travellers noticed our lost looks and kindly took us to the hostel. It is in a fantastic location, close to bars, restaurants, shops etc. The accommodation is clean and quirky. Staff are laid back and friendly. St Augustine is certainly worth a visit and I would highly reccommend a stay here for convenience and value for money!

“Great place and great price!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

For a chance to stay in historic Saint Augustine you really can't beat Pirate Haus! We were RIGHT in the middle of all the best shops and restaurants. Could literally walk right out our door into a cool boutique. Parking isn't even difficult. I'm a TERRIBLE parker and even I got in without any hassle. Plus, its free parking so it really can't be beat.
Staff was excellent - when we first walked in Conrad immediately got us a map and pinpointed exactly which restaurants were the best (btw we visited all his suggestions and they were divine. He definitely knows how to pick a good meal!), which to avoid, how far away the walks were, etc. Met travelers from all over the world hanging out in the common area and even got clued in to a very funny British comedy I'd never heard of. All around a nice stay :)
There was a lot of noise from partygoers but we knew what we were getting into when we chose Pirate Haus. It's the price you pay for being so close to excellent restaurants & bars. Also, Pirate Haus does offer earplugs so there's really nothing to complain about.
Would stay again!

“Yo Ho Yo Ho a Pirate Haus for me”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

For our anniversary weekend, we decided to go up to Saint Augustine for a quick stay. As lovers of all things "outside the norm", we stumbled upon The Pirate Haus online. The place looked fun, the location was perfect, and the price was even better. When we arrived, it was just as the webpage described. There is no way the website can mislead its guests. Got big smiles from all the pirate decor right away and that's when we met Captain Conrad. The good Captain is the ideal example of what B&B owners should be. Very warm and welcoming, he treats you like your family when checking you in. His knowledge about all the local activities and restaurants is astounding.
The room (#6/Jungle) was about the size of a master bedroom in a house. A nice and comfortable bed with two bunks (even though we did not bring the little one with us this time, we certainly will stay in this room when we do come back). Smallish bathroom but honestly, why do you need a grand one on vacation? There was no issues with noise from other guests or in general.
As I mentioned, the location is perfect. You are located just one block from A1A (behind the Hilton) and a 30 second walk to St. George St. All the shopping and places to eat are within a 5-10 minute walk, which means you can go in and out of your room between activities with ease
Breakfast in the morning was wonderful. The famous pancakes were delicious, and it was fun to talk to other travelers from around the globe!
Overall, this was a wonderful place for a quick trip to St. Augustine. Yes a place like this may not be for everyone but if you just need a simple place to stay with great hospitality, then The Pirate Haus is certainly for you!
