We recently returned from a week long stay at the San Remo Condos. We travel to this area yearly and have stayed at similar condos in the same vicinity. It was okay, but needs some major maintenance.
-The elevator is slow and scary! It was broken off and on all week and the fire dept had to be called out when someone became trapped inside. When you are on a higher level, the stairs are hot and tiring, especially if you are carrying luggage, beach bags or groceries!
-There was no one monitoring what was happening there. People who were not staying there parked in the lot to use the beach and we even noticed that they used the pool as well. There were several times teenagers came off of the beach and used to pool. One group was using foul langauge and we had to leave because of your young children. With people wandering in and out, it made you feel unsafe to leave your belongings unattended. Apparently this place is a secret among the local kids and they know that this property is unattended and they won't be kicked out.
-It is located next to the bird sanctuary, so be aware of the daily feedings on the beach (around 4:30p) and be sure to park on the opposite side. There is a lot of bird droppings!!
-The best thing about this building is that it is conveniently located and the beach is nice. However, it isn't kept up very well. The pool area was dirty most of the time, trash cans were always full and a lot of debris laying about. The elevator lobby, hallways and general building need some sprucing up, however, our unit was nice and well maintained.
We have stayed a few doors down at the Holiday Villas III and preferred it much more. It is a little more expensive, but I would choose it over this location for the extra expense.

The San Remo is an older building, but very well maintained. We stayed in suite 304. It was 1200 sqaure feet with 2 bedrooms and 2 full baths. Everything was in working order, and the place was very nicely decorated with paintings and drawings throughout. The beds were very comfortable, but the pull out sofa sleeper was so lumpy as to be unuseable. The view from the balcony was partially obstructed by buildings. I would recommend the 5th floor or higher to get the best views. The condo itself is very nosiy. The air conditioner, washing machine, and washer/dryer were very loud. The hot water pipes made a clicking sound at random times during the night. When the people in the upstairs condo would open the sliding doors to the balcony it sounded like someone was moving furniture. The pool/hot tub area was very nice and very clean. There were two BBQ grills in the pool area and lots of seating and a few tables. The hot tub jets did not work, but the water was nice and warm. The pool water was perfect...around 85 degreess I think. There is a bird sanctuary a few doors to the north and the birds provided a very soothing sound in the early morning and evenings around the pool.

Stayed at the San Remo for a week in July and it was great. We found the unit we stayed in, 304, through vrbo and it couldn't have been nicer. The unit was mostly remodeled with the exception of an older kitchen but it was efficent and had everything we needed. The views from the unit were very nice from all of the rooms. We would definitely stay there again.

We were there June week 24, and everyone enjoyed our week stay at San Remo. We rented directly through the owner. He mailed us the keys directly, so we walked right in when we arrived.

We took my mother in law and 3 sons, had plenty of room, and thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent there. Condos have different owners; if yours is dirty complain to the owner. Ours was fine! We walked around in white socks and they didn’t get dirty.

We stayed in 203 which is a beach view unit; I think beach front units end in 6 & 7.
We could sit out on the balcony and see the beach from the end of the balcony, but the balcony faced the parking lot.

Condo was a clean, spacious, 2 bedroom and 2 bath. There is cable TV in all rooms, an ironing board, linens, comforters, towels, kitchen with most regular items. The couch was a leather futon that made into a bed, and a pull out bed in the master closet. There was also a DVD player in the living room and floats / pool toys in the small closet. On the right as soon as you enter the condo is a full laundry room.

Short walk across a driveway at the back of property to pool/sauna, which is directly on beach. There is fishing line up over pool area, so some small birds get through, but not many. They get a quick drink from the pool and leave. The pool was ok when we arrived, and was cleaned around Monday or Tuesday and was very clean until we left. The sauna has the power jets on a timer switch mounted to a nearby pole.

The property is within walking distance to a few restaurants, and a short drive to very nice food and attractions like Pier 60 in Clearwater Beach, John’s Pass, etc.

Make sure to visit the Seabird Sanctuary next door, they have lots of birds we enjoyed looking at, and our boys even got to pet a Brown Pelican one of the volunteers showed them.

The beach starts as fluffy white sand, then closer to the ocean is more hard packed and strips of shells mixed in. Shelling is very good there, if you go at night you can buckets full of complete shells, and see an occasional sand crab. Even during the day you can find nice shells.

There were some people fishing, but I didn’t see anyone catch anything, fishing may be seasonal from the beach.

All day pass on the trolley (picks up by the Seabird Sanctuary next door) was $3.50, well worth it to sight see without having to drive and park.

Best souvenir shopping was at John’s Pass to the South.

Overall a very good experience with San Remo, if go to the Clearwater area again we will go back there.

Lestan’s harsh review (and at least 1 other) was for an entirely different property.
Let me clarify a few points:
No lobby (like a hotel has).
No hot tub, there’s a sauna
About 1.45hrs to Disney and universal.
No staff on site.
Units have central AC.

Also, the picture on the main page for San Remo is wrong, different property.

  • Liked — Nice fully equiped condo on the beach in a quiet section of town
  • Disliked — no AC in halls/elevator

We just returned, and every much enjoyed our stay at San Remo. We were in unit 302, and rented through Florida Lifestyle Vacations. You have to go to their office to get keys, but that is fine. Condo was clean, 2 bedroom and 2 bath. Short walk (like 100 ft) accross back of property to pool/sauna, which is directly on beach. There is wire up over pool area, so some small birds get through, but not many.
We took our 2 young daughters and our parents, and thouroughly enjoyed the San Remo! If your condo is dirty, perhaps it was different owners. Ours was fine! We stayed on side of condos, so out balcony could see beach. Overall, very nice place. Good price, close (short drive) to very nice food/locations, and just overall a very good experience with San Remo and Florida Lifestyle Vacations.
