I stayed here for the Memorial Day holiday weekend with my husband, my parents, and my sister and her husband. We rented what was advertised as a 3-bedroom, 3-bath unit from BestBeachGetaways.com on the 6th floor of Grandview East. I should begin by saying that the unit was lovely--it was a corner unit that was beautifully and tastefully decorated, had spacious living areas, and incredible panoramic views of the ocean with windows that covered two adjoining walls in the living room. The views were breath-taking. The master bedroom had balcony access and an amazing view. It also had a large bathroom with a jetted tub. The master and the living areas were the highlight of the unit. The rest left a lot to be desired.
When we booked the condo, we confirmed that it was in fact a 3-bathroom unit. Our invoice also indicated that the unit was 3-BR/3-BA. However, when we arrived, we discovered that it had only 2 bathrooms. This was a major issue, because we were travelling as 3 married couples. It is challenging for 4 adults to share a bathroom at the beach. Not only was this an inconvenience, but we paid the rental rate for a 3-BR/3-BA.
In addition the bathroom issue, we also experienced several other inconvenient issues.
*We were shorted a parking permit, which was a problem because they were towing vehicles daily since it was a holiday weekend and parking was a MAJOR problem (more on that later).
*The second bedroom, while spacious, had no comforter/duvet on the bed; simply a sheet and blanket and two VERY tiny pillows.
*The second bedroom also had no working remote control for the TV/DVD player.
*The second bathroom (shared by 2 couples) did not have a single rug on the tile floor. There was only a small towel bath mat. This does not create a safe situation with a wet and sandy bathroom floor!
Finally, the biggest problem aside from the bathroom situation, was the parking (or lack thereof)! Grandview East is 17 stories tall, but only has a tiny lot underneath the building. Because of this issue, an overflow lot is located directly across the street. The problem with this was that many times the overflow lot itself was actually full! We were forced to park a few times in a sandy, grassy area beyond the overflow lot, which was not particularly safe. Also, since the overflow lot was across the street, it created a very unsafe situation, especially for families with children. Front Beach Road is an extremely busy road in PC Beach, and traffic was heavier than usual with it being a holiday weekend. With so many drunk drivers on the road, it made us nervous to cross the street, and we had to literally had to RUN for our lives to make it across. Not cool. Also, extra parking permits are a whopping $17 each!
We contacted the realty the morning after our arrival and let them know about the bathroom issue, parking permit issue, and other minor problems with the unit. We did not want to be held responsible for the missing linens. They were very friendly and brought a parking permit and TV remote to our unit promptly. However, they did not offer any type of credit or compensation for the fact that they had falsely advertised the unit as a 3-bathroom unit. We felt that since we paid the rate for a 3-bathroom, we should have at least been credited SOMETHING, even if it was just $50. After all, it was inconvenient. For this reason, we will probably NOT rent through bestbeachgetaways.com again.
Onto the property itself. The condo was clean and so was the pool area. The pool area was somewhat shaded, so it would be a nice place to cool off and get out of the direct sun, but we spent most of our time at the beach. The pool area was furnished with lots of comfy chaise lounges and chairs. The beach area was very clean and easily accessible with just a short walk down the ramp. In addition to the beach chairs available for daily rental, there are 2 tiki huts with chairs provided by the condo, for guests to use on the beach for free. Only problem was, we never got to use them. During our stay, there was a couple of homeless men who "hung out" under the tiki huts and would frequently speak to us and other guests as we laid out on the beach. This made us quite uncomfortable. The cabana boy told us they had been there for 2 weeks and no one had asked them to leave. This is something that needs major attention from the condo management. This hotel is in a safe area and is clean and well-maintained, but this made us all quite uncomfortable. Especially when there are women and children alone on the beach at times. You can never be too careful these days.
Overall, this was a beautiful unit. It was the realty's fault that the unit was not as described. For a family, this would be perfect. Just not for 3 married couples. We would stay at Grandview East again if it weren't for the major parking problems and the lack of a third bathroom. I am ranking it AVERAGE, only because the parking is REALLY inconvenient, and really brings down the property.
