My family and I just returned from a 5 day stay at the Sterling Reef in PCB and had a GREAT time! There was no oil on the beaches anywhere. The water was safe, crystal clear and beautiful. We had a 2 bdrm/2 bath condo right on the gulf, Unit 503. The master was very spacious with a king bed and had a nice garden tub in the bathroom. The second bedroom was kind of small (but adequate) and had a full bed, and there was a decent sized bathroom right next to it (but no garden tub!). The full kitchen was spacious and was fully stocked with dishes and pots/pans. It had a flat top electric stove with an oven. All of the furniture in the condo was modern and decorated well, even the patio furniture! The patio was very large and of course, faced the gulf. The county pier is located next to the property and makes for great pictures, especially at sunset. The beach in front of the property was clean, beautiful and never crowded. The water was gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous, and crystal clear. We had the best views of that beach!
The only negative I can write about this property is that upon checking in we were at first given an uncleaned condo. We walked in and there were no sheets on the beds, there was hair in the sink in the bathrms, no towels. It clearly had not been cleaned. Maybe in the process but certainly not done. We contacted the after-hours answering service and were promptly assigned to another unit. The woman we spoke with on the phone was unpleasant and completely unapologetic and actually had an attitude about the situation, and this poor customer service and experience at the outset was the only negative thing I can report about our trip.
Aside from the rough check-in though, our family had a great time and really enjoyed the Sterling Reef. It is in an excellent location, close enough to both the main drives (ie Thomas Dr and Front Beach Rd) and the west end. Only about a 5-7 minute ride to Pier Park with no traffic. It's also right across the street from Shipwreck Island. The two pools were nice to cool off in after visiting the beach and were never too crowded to enjoy. The elevators weren't far from the rooms and worked just fine while we were there. There's 3 levels of covered parking right under the bldg, which is very convenient. You also get unlimitied dvd rentals during your stay, which is great for the kids. We had free wi-fi, although we were too busy having fun to enjoy it. But it's nice to know its there. All in all, we would definitely stay at this property again.
Local faves--Shipwreck Island, Pineapple Willy's, Capt. Anderson's restaurant and also the sunset dolphin cruise (highly recommended!), Capt's Table restaurant (cheap seafood and very fresh!), Pier Park, Cobra race track (gotta ride the Wild Thang!), St. Andrews State park kiddie pool, Homemade Ice Cream (the banana ice cream is divine). Although we didn't get a chance to do it, the jet ski dolphin tour looked fun (they came around the Capt Anderson boat during the cruise). We love PCB!
