“Best location and value in Palm Beach if you are not a snob”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 April 2011

We sent three friends here in March. One couple, and two solo friends came at different times, and they all were very happy they stayed here.
It is not luxurious and elegant, but a B&B that works. Everyone raved about the owner (John) whose son played in the recent Honda Classic (golf). Nice family. Very high marks for the breakfasts.
Rooms are clean and about a 6 on the decorator scale, but they work. The couple owns a large hotel in the North, and the two solo guests own multiple properties and could stay wherever they want. They stayed here for the value and the location. BTW, it is 100 steps from Buccan which is Palm Beach's hottest new restaurant.
Walk to the beach, walk to Worth Avenue, and this is a good place to relax if you are not spoiled. It is a wonderful spot, and nice people and work there so you can stay there too.

Room Tip: Negotiate with John.

Just stayed for 3 nights. One block to the beach and 2 blocks to Worth Avenue- can't beat this location! Loved the free breakfast and free snacks too!! Great trip :)

“Awesome Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2011

My recent visit was extremely satisfying. I found the hotel, location and service exactly what I expected it to be. The operators of the inn went out of their way to make me feel like i was their only guest dispite the place being full. I will definitely be going back and would recommend it to anyone!!!

“Charming but a bit run down”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2010

We loved the location and the old building. However, the hot water was intermittent at best, lots of peeling paint and other areas of deferred maintenance. The beds had seen better days as well. It is listed as a B&B but breakfast never occurred. Nice folks but they really need to fix the place up.

I own the Inn and I dispute the travelers version of their stay. I do not have a Colorado client booked for that time frame and I do not understand. We have two 250 water heaters that throw out scolding hot water (being an old building, it can take a minute to get to the hot water, but there is an almost never ending supply). As for the beds, every bed at the Inn has been replaced with BRAND NEW pillow top beds. We also have all NEW pillows, pillow covers, many new sheets and towels. In my opinion, there is NO WAY this person stayed at our Inn.

“Huge Disappointment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2006

Considering that $200 a night is very inexpensive for lodging in Palm Beach (especially in-season), my wife and I booked our stay here with pretty modest expectations. But having said that, our stay at Palm Beach Historic Inn was pretty terrible on all counts (other than the fact this is located within walking distance of Worth Avenue).

When we checked in, and the apparently new owners told me that the room we reserved actually would not be available as it was still being painted and remodeled, it was not a big deal to me (for the sake of fairness here, they were moving us to a room that was about $10-$15/night costlier). Check-in also took an inordinate amount of time, as the owners were still trying to find their way around their (apparently new) computer system.

The room looked fairly worn, with the television sitting on top of a small refrigerator, and the blinds were fairly bent up as well. Again, on these counts I was pretty forgiving considering that I wasn't expecting a whole lot for $200/night in Palm Beach.

Later in the evening, we noticed there was a sheet in the lobby for guests to make their "continental breakfast" selection (toast, bagel, juice, coffee), which as the sheet indicated, would be brought up to the room at the time we specified. In short, it never arrived, and we opted to go out for a real breakfast about a half hour after our breakfast was supposed to arrive at our room. By this time, we were pretty disgusted anyway, as the night before had been disturbed by rather persistent thumping, which we had initially blamed on the only other guests staying there. We later discovered it was music coming from the gym that is housed next door and downstairs in the same building as the inn!

Finally, checkout was unbelievably and laughably incompetent, as it took (I'm not exaggerating here) a good 30 minutes to check us out, again due to "computer problems". The person checking me out had to run my credit card through several times (which amazingly showed up on my credit card bill correctly), and when I asked her for an actual bill she told me she didn't have the ability to do that. Moreover, she seemed perplexed that I would be upset over not being able to get a detailed bill of room charges (only one of the credit card slips with the total), especially after she had just run my card through several times!

In summary, it was not the old room with worn fixtures, or the meager breakfast (if you're lucky enough to actually get them to bring it to you) that was most disappointing, but the supremely poor service. I truly hope that management has ironed out the problems I faced, but based on the incompetence and unapologetic nature of the staff that I experienced, I can't recommend this inn.

I own the PB Historic Inn (with a partner) and at the time, you met a new innkeeper we had just hired. Versus your review and description of our 1923 historic landmark building (and your $200 room), I would like to invite you back for a free night to try it again. Call or email me at (561) 707-0206. I do not know why you did not receive breakfast and on time. The innkeeper has been fired, many horro stories about how she treated our guests and staff.
