I have been to the Colony before to attend conferences but never stayed in one of their rooms. I just had a one day trip and I thought why not the Colony. I am so glad I picked it. Cost was a factor and the rate was the best of the other properties I was considering, the Breakers, the Brazilian, the Ritz. Frankly i couldn't justify those prices for a business stay. The Hyatt Place was a few dollars cheaper but has no pizzaz. Lucky that I have stayed in some very very nice spots lately and I am always looking to explore more. Since the common areas are charming I had high hopes for the room. It was pretty much as expected. Immaculate, decor consistent with the lobby and online photos. There is an air about the Colony that makes it feel a bit vintagey, a bit of faded glory. That is not to say there was anything shabby or subpar - at all. It's just not ultra modern or minimalist. It's of a different era and I loved it.
I arrived around 11pm and had a 7 am pick up the next morning. I didn't stay long but the front desk was very accommodating as my plans kept changing and I had them book a local car service as recommended Excellent service at a very reasonable price, thank you Mark at Luxury Transportation!
The best part of my very short stay was hands down the bed. Ok the Molton Brown toiletries are quite nice too. I don't usually fall asleep when my head hits the pillow. I slipped under the covers and was enveloped in fluffy bedding, a super comfy mattress and was out like a light. Perhaps the wine at dinner helped a bit but this bed was nonetheless a luxurious treat. Would stay again, have enjoyed cocktails at Polo Lounge and I have always thought the pool looks very inviting. This small hotel offers quite a lot, great staff, great grounds and locale. And now I know the beds are dreamy too!
