My wife and I just spent 6 nights at the Coral Beach Hotel. Needless to say, we were worried after reading some the horrible comments on here after we had already made reservations. Upon arrival, we checked in with no problems and the gentleman at the counter was professional, but not super - cheesy friendly like at most hotels, which was fine with me. The lobby is clean and nicely decorated. It also has a computer for guests with high speed internet. We took the elevator up to the 4th floor. Either one of the elevators are not falling apart or about to drop you 4 stories to your death like some comments lead you to believe. They're your basic elevators - plain and simple. On our way to the room, i noticed a few tears in the hallway carpet, but it wasnt nasty looking.
We got to our room and crossed our fingers before entering. Upon opening the door we noticed a clean "hotel" room smell. It wasn't musty or moldy like we had read on here. The carpet was NOT nasty and looked freshly vacuumed / fairly new. The bathroom was older looking but clean and well stocked with towels and soap. The fridge and microwave was not super clean, but didnt have any furry creatures living in them. The bed sheets were clean, no stains, and smelled fresh. We also checked for bed bugs, but NONE were to be found. There was NO ROACHES, NO FLIES, NOR ANY KIND OF BUGS in our room. The table and 2 chairs in front of the balcony window were a nice touch, and was clean. The balcony overlooking the ocean was great. The 2 chairs had a small amount of mildew around the edges, along with the outside surface of the door, but thats expected, i mean, you ARE at the beach where moisture is constant. The TV had about 20 channels, no HBO, or pay per view type channels. Even though the room felt and looked clean, we took antibacterial wipes and wiped down the remote, tables, and door handles just to be safe.
After inspecting our room, we went back downstairs to the pool area. The indoor pool looked clean, but had a STRONG smell of chlorine. The comments about the gameroom are correct. There's 1 arcade game (1996 Mortal Combat) and i wasnt sure if it even worked. Some of the buttons were stuck in the down position. It had an ice machine, a drink machine, and a couple snack machines. The outdoor pool area was decent, nice landscaping, plenty of chairs, but the foot wash area had alot of sand most of the time and the knobs / pipes could use replacing. The pool didnt look super clean when we arrived, but was cleaned a day or two after. We never swam in either pool, due to lack of time. It has direct beach access (stairs) from the pool patio.
The only person i seen around the hotel that i didnt really trust was the maintenance man. He's kind of a "shady" person, looking at you out of the corner of his eye. He keeps his head shaved slick and has tattoos. I only seen him once or twice, but never spoke to him.
Overall, if you're looking for an affordable hotel directly on the beach, this is the one. Granted, its not a Hilton or a 5 star hotel, but the room we stayed in was clean, the maid kept it well stocked the entire stay, and the beach view is incredible.
