I stayed at the Coral Beach with family from Aug. 5-7. We had researched hotels around Ormond Beach, and had originally planned to stay at the Holiday Inn Resort at Daytona, but they were booked for the weekend, so we used the coupon for the Coral Beach instead. The interesting thing is it is right next to the Makai Beach Lodge hotel, which we stayed at years ago. It sounds like it has gone a bit downhill, but I heard there is new management, so maybe it will be one to look at sometime...
The hotel lobby is nice and updated looking, and there is a business center and coffee available. There are all kinds of coupons for things to do around the beach, and we used one to go Go-Karting one of the days. I recommend that for a couple hours as it is a great family activity to do.
The hallways are not enclosed, which is good I think for a beach hotel as they wont get really musty and moldy. There are 2 elevators, and stairs too if you don't want to wait. The elevators work fine, maybe a bit slow, although it was a bit busy during our stay so people were using them frequently. When we were leaving the elevator stopped working so only one elevator could be used, which made things even slower. Other than that, the exterior of the building is fine.
The type of room we wanted wasn't available, but we got the next one up for only $10 more per night. It had a full kitchen in it, with a fridge, stove/oven, sink, and different kinds of cookware. There was also a table and 4 chairs, so plenty of room to sit. The outdoor deck was enclosed so you don't see the neighbor next to you, which is nice if you like privacy. The beds were soft and comfortable, no bugs of any kind were seen in the room. As with most hotels, I wished there were more outlets, but we managed fine. There is free WiFi throughout the entire hotel, and we received a strong connection on the 4th floor where our room was. NOTE: if you have your laptop set to only show Wireless G and/or N networks, that must be changed to show Wireless B networks too, as the hotel uses the older Wireless B standard. The internet speed is pretty standard of a hotel, not the fastest, but it usually was around 2-3mbps, so fairly speedy.
The only thing I really have to complain about is the bathroom. The lighting in the bathroom is kinda dim, but you can still see ok in the shower. The other thing is the fan is noicy, and it doesn't seem to help, although that seems pretty common with hotels.
The pool was pretty nice. There are 2, one indoor and the other outdoor. The outdoor one was busy, vs the indoor one wasn't. There is a shower to use when coming from the beach, which works great. The beach of course is very nice.
Overall I enjoyed my stay at the Coral Beach Motel, and I would stay at it again if there weren't other hotels available. It is a good deal if you have a coupon! I am not sure the price of the hotel without the coupon though.
