Stayed here January 7-8, 2012, in an "oceanview" room. As stated in other reviews, we had a view of the ocean from an angled balcony on the side of the hotel. Not what we expected, but for the short time we were there, it sufficed. If we'd stayed longer, we might have requested a room change to and "oceanfront" room.
The hotel is an older hotel and has undergone renovation. The bathroom is, indeed, small (think Red Roof Inn bathroom-small), but it was big enough for the tub/shower combo and the toilet and room to dress. The sink is just outside the bathroom-proper, which we actually prefer as one can be showering, one can use the sink at the same time. The bathroom was very clean, renovated with modern large tiling and new plumbing fixtures. All in all, very nice.
The room itself was very large (we had a king room), Plenty of room to move about, store our things, and a bonus was the fridge in the room (no microwave, but not something we needed anyway). It was decorated in "sun tones;" i.e., golds, browns, and oranges. The decorating itself was done tastefully. TV was not flat screen, although I did notice some in other rooms. Again, not a problem for our purposes. Coffee pot/coffee in the room, and the front desk was very generous in providing additional coffee packets (i.e., 3) when we requested more.
We were on the 7th floor, so we had a good view of the ocean (from that angled balcony). Because it's an old hotel and an angled balcony, as mentioned in other review, the exhaust from the room next door blows onto your balcony, and yours blows onto the next. Not a great piece of engineering, but at this time of year, we did not have a big problem, likely because it was not necessary to use AC and also the hotel was not fully occupied.
No breakfast, but there is a restaurant on site that apparently serves lunch and dinner, if the sign outside the restaurant is correct. We arrived on Saturday afternoon, left Monday morning, and never saw the restaurant open. We opted for a good breakfast at the IHOP directly across the street from the hotel.
The patio areas are spacious and have lots of lounges. Found them to be comfortable and adjustable. It was too cool for anyone to use the pool; it apparently is not heated. I dangled my feet in it, but the pool was so cold that it was literally numbing in about 30 seconds. There are lounges around the pool, a "sun" patio that is uncovered and another that is under cover if you want to avoid the sun. All had a good number of lounges available--again we apparently were there "off season." We could see yet another patio/lounge area that is on the roof of the portico to the hotel, but we could not find how to get to it.
Access to the beach was easy and safe from the pool area.
The carpets in the elevator are really old and dirty--probably gets lots of traffic from the beach and from travelers, so maybe it's not worth replacing frequently. Not a dealbreaker for us, though. Didn't spent a lot of time in the elevator!
The pool looked as if it could use more cleaning. It was not dirty (in spite of two flocks of seagulls deciding to use it as a birdbath), as such. It looked as if it needed vacuumed, however, as there were leaves and minor debris in the bottom.
If you want to really see the ocean, request an oceanFRONT or "pool view" room. The pool is directly on the beach, so either room designated as such will get you a full oceanview room.
Room Tip: If you want a FULL view of the ocean (not from an angled balcony that requires you to lean .. thisaw...
