I had a corporate rate on this hotel and a place where I could have a kitchen to myself. It looked like a great deal until now.
This is a no-frills hotel, which must be understood. This is Orlando and there will be families with the occasional loud child, I'm OK with that. The manager gave us a heads-up about the thin walls, I understand that. Now here are some things that should be understood about me, a friendly, well-behaved, and studious guest.
From January through April, I place 500 hours of time toward my studies in class, followed by extra work after class. I'm generally quiet and I keep to myself. I am committed to my work and the fruits of my labor seem to be paying off. I wake up as early as 4:30am and go to sleep as late as midnight.
So with such few hours left in my day, why is it that I deserved to have the room above me pound their feet so loud and so often that I think my ceiling is going to cave in? For several weeks? Two separate nights before tests? This has cost me a trip to a sleep clinic, stays to other hotels in order to catch up on sleep, and a day where I had to sleep 21 hours in order to get any kind of peace and quiet.
The staff really do what they can, I sincerely believe that. I get along with every staff member and manager I've met. My room is cleaned once a week and the front desk always delivers. The residents are fine, and the students are usually busy with their day. With the noise level of this facility, it can only be a few things.
Either the brief-stay guests are the rudest people I've ever met OR this was a poorly planned building from the very beginning which should never have been approved as an Extended Stay building. I'm thinking it's the latter. These walls are so thin that hallway conversations can be be heard by the entire wing. These walls are so thin that my loudly snoring neighbor might as well be in the same room. These walls are so thin, Norman Bates could get a few ideas. OK, maybe that last one is an exaggeration, but I think you understand.
I figure since I've been here for four months, paid out approximately $3,700, I think I'm entitled to my opinion. I also feel my friends have a right to know about this place, which is why this is being written.
If Extended Stay believes in hospitality, if they want to do the right thing, they know where to find me. Plus, they have the luxury to sleep on it, something I'd like to enjoy.
