“Great stay”

This hotel is very clean and ALL of the people working there were over the top friendly. It is an older property, but very well maintained. We were lead to believe that it is an easy walk to Universal from the hotel, which turned out to not really be realistic with 2 kids. Thankfully we had rented a car anyway. We would stay here again, without question. The staff and price make this a steal of a stay!

“Front desk staff very helpful and friendly.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Our Florida trip started out with 2 nights at the Best Western Plus Orlando Gateway. The hotel staff was very friendly, the rooms were clean, the bed was comfortable and the pool and 2 hot tubs were great and the price was right!. We were so impressed with the hotel that we booked our last night there before we flew out the next morning. We got to the hotel about 4 hours before normal check-in as we wanted to enjoy the pool and hot tubs one last time. We were greated by Anpavia. She was so friendly and helpful. She treated us like royalty. Our room was not ready but she said she could have it ready for us in 45 minutes. We decided to wait in the lobby so she called a bellman to help us with our luggage. No sooner than we sat down to wait when she found a different room for us. Besides getting us a room much earlier than check in time, it was the way she treated us. She is a valuable employee to the hotel. We will stay there again on our next trip to Orlando. Great job, Anpavia!

“Comfortable and clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Stayed here from 19th Jan - 2nd Feb, this was our 6th stay at the Best Western Orlando gateway (also stayed here when it was Clarion Universal). As usual had a great stay, we had a couple of nights away in Miami and returned to no hot water so had to be moved to another room, bit of a pain when your all unpacked but got a night refund (thanks front desk supervisor) and a free Breakfast (cheers Bill jones-manager & nice chap), room 718 needs something to stop the water running off side of the bath above the taps onto the floor, its going down a crack in the floor and causing a damp smell, we only had this room a couple of days so wasn`t too bad, our original room at front of the hotel was fab (745). This hotel is in a great location just off i-drive and right by Wet n Wild. I would recommend this hotel to friends as we have always had a good room, though we have found that there are some that need a little work. We will be back.

Room Tip: The front of the hotel rooms get the sun through the day

So when we got there at 12 noon, we were told that check in was at 4 but to hold on. Well they miraculously found us a room ( this is January mind you) but it was an upgrade and was going to be an extra $10 a night. When the lady saw it wasn't happening, the rate magically dropped to $5.50 a night. We relented as my gf and I both wanted to shower and get on with our day. When I asked what the upgrade was, I was told it was having a view of the pool. I commended her for telling me that with a straight face and went to our room.

Upon arrival it smelled of mildew and feet. We left our stuff and told them we were going to eat. I said try spraying the place and if it still stinks we want to move. They said no problem.
Well we got back and had to move, they moved us and waved the resort fee for the trip which was nice. I said well now that is 4 pm I hope you are moving us to our originally booked room so I do not have to pay the "upgrade charge." She just smiled and knodded.
Long story short, they stuck me with the bogus upgrade bill and did not care at all that I was unhappy. Even when I said you know the first thing I am going to do is go write a review.

Place is old but its a room with a bed. Its right next to Universal (1 mile). All you need it for is sleeping. The pool is nice and big but gets no sun after noon as the place blocks it. There are 2 nice secluded hot tubs to use. The bar staff and deli staff were amazing nice and helpful.

They also allow the theme park ticket people to do shady deals by calling their broker friends over to sell tickets to guests. I was amazed watching the transactions and on goings all times of day and night. I said am I at a family friendly place or 42nd street in Times Square.

Room Tip: OK, if you just want a bed to crash in if you are spending all day at Universal. Do not fall for th...

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. I appreciate your feedback and will certainly share it with our staff.

In regards to the room upgrades, check-in time is set for 4:00 pm and typically when we have rooms available of the type that was booked we will gladly check a guest in early. If that room type is not available and we have other room types availalbe then yes, we will offer that room as an upgrade. There is no reason that your room should have smelled like "feet" and I will have our Executive Housekeeper check into what you experienced and have our carpets all cleaned if necessary.

The pool area does have shade during the day during the months of Dec-Feb but we have a sun deck that receives full sun along with the two spa's for guests that want to lounge around and enjoy the Florida Sunshine. During the months of March-Novemebr the pool area receives full sun!

Again, thank you for your comments we do read each and every review and certainly react to what our guests are telling us.
