Hi Me and my family stayed in Days Inn Maingate last May 2011 and it wasn't really as bad as I thought it would be!
I have stayed in several Days Inn hotels before (in Asia) and I find their hotels to be nice and good value for money. And so, as soon as I saw their $28 per night deal in Agoda, i booked it. I thought it was good deal. I didn't even bother to check this hotel in TA before booking it.
After few days, which is like a couple of weeks before we were due to arrive in Orlando, I looked up this hotel in TA and was suprised (not in a good way) by most of the negative
reviews I've read. I even started to regret booking this hotel but I can't cancel it, it would mean
wasting some money as i booked 3 rooms (stupid, i know).
We finally arrived in Orlando and saw the hotel for the first time. It was indeed near Universal
Studious, but not that near. The location is not really bad but it will be hard to get in and out
the area if you don't have a car. I was already expecting the worst, so seeing how unkept the
outside of the hotel looked like did not bother me at all. The check in was fast, within 10
mins we got the keys to our rooms. The rooms, well they are pretty basic, the bedsheets are outdated but they all looked clean and fresh. No bed bugs! The bathrooms were outdated but
they were also clean. Yes, the towels were really thin and small but it's a $28 per night
room! So i guess that was ok. All in all, our stay was okay. We slept comfortably on all 3 nights. The only thing I didn't really like about the hotel is that there is no place to eat, atleast none that is appealing enough. The breakfast they offer is quite pathetic, we have to drop by
wendy's or Burger King to get something to eat. Good thing we rented a van. So if you don't have a car, don't stay here. You'll go hungry!
