“Pay attention to the terms & conditions”

Visited unit 206 in bldg 4216. Paid extra for a premium 3 bedroom condo in the gated area on the lake. Lovely amenities. The full kitchen and laundry area are convenient. HOWEVER, there was one bait and switch that RUINED our trip...

I warn you. Please read the Terms & Conditions. Especially if you are on a short stay (as we were). I usually do not read the fine print. But if you fail to do so (as I did), you will regret it. I promised the front desk I would warn TripAdvisor readers. It didn't seem to bother them. Not even a little.

There are extra charges that are never called out when you book your stay. But in the fine print of the Terms & Conditions, you will find this little gem:

"CLEANING FEE: All bookings 3 or less nights will incur a one time cleaning fee of USD 75.00 which is charged in addition to full balance of the reservation."

If this were clearly marked on the web site, or on the itinerary or anywhere during checkout, I would have no concern. But it was never, ever, ever mentioned until I got to the front desk. At check-in, they did not seem surprised I was unaware. They said it was "in the fine print" of the Terms & Conditions.

What a pleasant surprise when you arrive. Option 1: pay the surprise $75 overcharge for "one time cleaning," or Option 2: find other accommodations while your family is waiting in the car to check in. I believe this is a clear case of false advertising.

Another pleasant surprise: I noticed the unit had signs warning guests: "DO NOT set thermostat below 72 degrees Fahrenheit, or you may incur a $500 charge." The heat was already set to 69 F when we walked in. So I raised it to 72 F. But the thermostat was PROGRAMMED to return to 69 F every few hours. I had to play around and learn out how to reprogram the thermostat so that it would stop resetting to the original 69 F setting. Had I done nothing, I would risk a $500 charge if the unit froze up.

Also disappointing, we arrived on a Saturday when the property was DEAD. On Superbowl weekend, the parking lot was empty our entire stay. Parks were dead too. You would think that would be awesome. So it is hard to understand why check-in was denied us when we arrived at 2 PM Saturday. We had to wait for our room. They told us that check-in is 4 PM. At 2 PM, the front desk said they would call us when the room was ready. They never called. We finally got our room at 6 PM.

Also: if you travel for work, like I do, you'll be accustomed to major hotels scheduling check out between 11 AM and noon. But at the Vista Cay, check-out is scheduled for 10:00 am. The property could not accommodate our request for late checkout... on a dead Monday. So we spent our last night here doing laundry and packing for morning checkout. How fun.

At first, I thought this place would be a bargain. The place is gorgeous and has so much potential. The unit is huge and well accommodated. But management really blew it. Next time, we will try somewhere else. I recommend you do too.

We value our guest feedback as we continuously strive to improve our guest’s experience.
I think that it is critical for any potential guest to do its research and know exactly what terms and conditions for the Resort/Hotel, before making a transaction; this guest indicates he travels for business, so we would expect that he would be very used to search and verify exactly what he is booking before making his reservation; it obvious that this did not take place, as he could have avoided finding out of any fees after the fact. We are a very reputable resort and 99% of the reviews speak for themselves; we do not mislead our guests with hidden fees as implied on this review. We are not a typical hotel, but a "Self Catering Luxury Condo Resort" and when you offer the amenities and comfort of 2,000 to 2,300 Sq. Ft. units, you cannot compare it with a small hotel room of 450 Sq. Ft of space. Our Terms and Conditions are clearly stated in our web site when booking any reservations, and it is very important to read and acknowledge what the terms are
Our staff does care, and has been properly trained on our policies; Early Check In and Late Check Out is never guaranteed like any other hotel and resort and is based on availability; we always try to accommodate our guests whenever possible, but due to the sheer size of our accommodations, it can take up to 4 hours to clean and get the unit ready for the next guest, so unfortunately, we cannot always accommodate our guests with these requests; experienced travelers know this very well and it should not come as a surprise. As this guest stated, it is important to know and read all information before making a final reservation, and this will prevent any misunderstanding and ensure a great experience.

“Only place we will stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

We actually rented the Buckeye palace off of VRBO, but this is the only link I can find so here goes.

This place is fabulous. The condo was immaculate, and had big comfy beds, upscale kitchen, and a 50" plasmas in the living room, plus tvs in all the bedrooms. parking was easy, and there is a big pool at the club house. It is not on I-dribe , but east of there on Universal blvd, which is a plus. You can go up or down on Universal until you get close to where you want on I-drive and then cut over. For quick access you can cut over on the service road just North of the condos and it will dump you out across from the Dennys and Mcdonalds on I- drive. Fifteen min. to Disney, Five to Sea World, and five to Universal with hardly any traffic. You can pick up your parking pass(if you use a flex ticket) at Wet-n-Wild on the way up to Universal in the morning and it will save you a few buck over several days. Restaurants close, Walgreens, and a grocery store around the corner. Liqour store, several blocks up where I-drive turns east and crosses Univ. blvd, North east corner of the intersection. There is a printer in the condo, and laundry facil.. It is a gated community, and there are full time residences. You can keep the onsite rooms at Disney, we will stay here and pay alot less for alot more room.

Room Tip: search for the buckeye palace

I selected Vista Cay for its close proximity to Islands of Adventures and a conference we were attending. We stayed in a 3 bedroom condo that was bright and filled with all the amenities we needed: full kitchen, washer & dryer, 2 bathrooms. It was very quiet with a nearby Publix and Walgreens. The staff was very accommodating and I want to especially thank the housekeeping staff who returned my phone and charger to the front desk after I had checked out. I was able to make arrangements through Fed Ex and have my phone back in hand within a couple of days. I will definitely plan to stay at Vista Cay for all my future visits to Orlando.

“Very good value”

Booked Vista Cay through Destination America. We got 2 weeks accommodation and flights from Edinburgh for £480 each which is very very good. 7 adults stayed here. There was 2 double bedrooms, 1 twin room and a sofa bed. Apartment had a washing machine, tumble dried, all kitchen amenities and a pc.

As we never hired a car we relied on taxis back and forth from I. drive but being 7of us it was about 1 dollar each. We used publix nearly everyday and got piZza from NYPD pizza parlour which was good. Ideal if you are travelling in a group, would be better if we hired a car but only a small setback.
