First things first - the Beach Club itself is a wonderful resort. Walking distance to the Boardwalk (which constitutes most of what little is left of Disney nightlife) and EPCOT, great pool, and the front desk cast members were lovely. But keep in mind that you are paying through the nose to stay here, and there begin my complaints. I love staying on Disney property and rarely stay elsewhere when visiting Orlando, but their prices are just getting ridiculous. We chose a studio villa because it had the little "efficiency kitchen" (which is just a small fridge, a sink, and a microwave) and was a little less expensive than a regular "deluxe" room at the Beach Club.
The price difference honestly wasn't worth the bother, as a regular room at this hotel has a mini fridge anyway and on top of that also has two fairly comfortable queen-sized beds vs. the studio having one queen bed and a ridiculously uncomfortable pull-out couch. On top of that our room faced the road and the sounds from that were quite loud. Also, though the water pressure was great I was never able to have a truly HOT shower - even when I was up early or taking one later in the day and had the handle turned all the way up.
We paid over $300 a night to stay here, and the only thing that made it seem somewhat worth that amount was how close it is to the Boardwalk and EPCOT. Perhaps if we'd had two comfortable beds in our room, or a great view, I would have felt better about it...but as neither was the case I can't rate the Beach Club (and especially the villas) at more than three stars/average.
Also, our housekeeper was something of a frustration to us as well. On our first morning she knocked around 10:30 AM. I politely told her that we would be out of the room in about 30 minutes and in response she stared at me like I had three heads and said, "Okay," in a tone that clearly expressed her annoyance. She did not come knocking on our second morning, thankfully, but on our last morning she let herself into the room at 8 AM! No, we did not have the do not disturb sign out, but we were sleeping heavily and didn't hear her knock (if she did at all). She made a comment about how we were supposed to check out, but come on...we didn't need to be out of the room until 11 AM and didn't need to rush out for early flights, plus we had not been out of the room before 10:30 AM any morning of our stay...it just seemed a bit ridiculous for her to so obviously expect us to be gone at such an early hour.
All in all, it's just becoming extremely frustrating that to stay on Disney property you're paying over $100/night at the very least for a questionable room at a value resort, or over $200/night for an okay-at-best room at a moderate resort, or over $300/night for a deluxe resort with the only true perk being a slightly better location in regards to the parks. Add to that the steadily increasing ticket prices (over $90 for a one day one park ticket?!) and the steadily decreasing quality of food and service and even people like myself begin to shake our heads in wonder that Disney has fallen so far.
