Stayed from 01/21/12- 01/28/12 for a Disney Trip
I got this hotel for the Travelocity top secret price
After looking at some of the reviews I wasn’t so sure about how my stay will be, but after my trip, I cant help wonder if some of the bad reviews are from the competition.
The staff was great. From the moment I arrived, all throughout my stay, and at check-out. Any request was handled properly and quickly. I was given a free upgrade which was such a nice surprise. The Disney shuttle is amazing. That right there was worth staying here. Always on time, and got me to the parks very quickly and safely. My room was very big, clean and comfortable. King size bed was very comfortable, many pillows and soft sheets. In room coffee was awfulllllll though. But that’s to be expected, I guess. The bathroom was huge, and was very nice. Room service was very quick and a good deal when I wanted to just hang out in the room. The only problem is the tv. If I did end up hanging out in the room, the tv was an old box set, and made watching movies not enjoyable.. They need to be updated. The internet was pricey ( 45 dollars for 5 days) but it was very fast. The pool area was very nice, and the outdoor bar would be a great place to hang out in the summer. I did not use the fitness center, but it looked like it had everything one would need to keep up on his or her body while being on a vacation ‘diet’. Also, the hotel has laundry facilities that are open 24/7. The bar was big, appealing and open late. The café was perfect for little snacks and drinks. The restaurant was fine. You will find better food at downtown Disney, but it’s good enough when you just want to stay there or grab breakfast before heading out. I will try to book all my Disney trips here at the Royal Plaza. I had a great experience, and I will be booking another trip here for November.

Room Tip: The hotel has a free upgrade if available. Ask to be on the side away from the highway.

“I thought it was "okay"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I paid the Florida resident rate ($144 for the Premier Tower room, king bed) and stayed during the off season (February). It was a weekend for just my wife and I. There were very few people at the hotel and I saw only a couple of kids, so it was very nice and quiet. However, I would consider this "resort" a nice "budget hotel". There was an old, small, square television that was a bit beat up (the glass had a chip in it). It had only very basic cable (not even On-Demand). You also have to pay for Internet access ($10 per day). It kind of felt like going back in time... There was nothing real spectacular that blew me away. We stayed there because it was close to Downtown Disney where we spent most of the evenings over that weekend. The shuttle made it easy to get back and forth to Downtown without having to worry about a parking space, but note that the shuttles start at 6pm in the evening and run until 3am. We had a nice view toward Downtown Disney and Epcot.

It's not the worst place we've ever stayed. If you can get in for under $100, I'd say that it would be worth it. The resort fee is low (about $8), but they also charge $10 a night for parking (I believe this parking fee is common for most hotels in that area).

However, there is another thing that may be a deal breaker for certain people and will likely keep me from returning, that would be the air conditioner. It's a bit noisy. We had nice weather so we kept ours off most of the time, but we were actually able to hear the AC from the room next door all night! Also, we were up on the 16th floor and the windows are not very sound proof so we heard the traffic from the highway. It was sort of like white noise, which actually helps some people, like me, to sleep.

Hope this helps.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Downtown Disney also have a view of the highway and are above all the outdoor AC units...

Good day! Thank you very much for your feedback. Indeed, the hotel is due for an upgrade. The property was recently purchased by a group that shares that opinion. We have committed to a major upgrade over the next several months, thereby giving us an upscale, contemporay image with a new furniture package including flat panel televisions. We hope that you will allow us a second opportunity at that time to reinforce the fact that we have become one of the finest and most sought after lodging destinations in the region. Thank you again for your comments. All the best...

“The Royal Plaza Orlando”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Frankly I did not recognise much of it from the glossy images they show on the web. Check in could have been handled better. To be told there was no upgrade was surprising as I hadn't even asked for one so it seemed a bit brusque...and the extra surprise was to be charged daily as a resident for parking a car - most bizarre. Looking at other reviews praising the place perhaps we were unlucky. Clearly from what they write, the tower might have been better (who knows) but the ground floor is dark...and also you can hear the other rooms. Generally the rooms are very dated and in need of some tender loving care. The aircon(cold/hot) did not really work in any meaningful way. The fitness room is small and machines out of order. The pool is perhaps more for gentle cooling than swimming. Didn't bother with the breakfast. The staff in general are good. Handy for downtown Disney of course but quite a bus ride to the main attractions and also the bus timetable on return can prove quite erratic...beware the last bus or two!

Room Tip: probably not a standard room on the ground floor

“OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

The hotel is very close to Downtown Disney. There is also a shopping plaza close by with a 24 hour grocery store and restaurants including McDonald's, Chevy's and Red Lobster. I had to call the front desk to ask how to turn the shower on. They told me to pull the handle really hard. I felt like I was going to break it. This may be the reason other reviewers have had handles come out of the walls. The service was great. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: If you like to sleep with the windows open ask for a room facing the front of the hotel. The back f...
