“Not great but good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

The location is perfect if visiting Universal Studios and City Walk, however, unlike most hotels near the theme parks, the Doubletree only offers a free shuttle service to the Universal area a few times during the day, and only in the early morning with return trips around 6pm, well before activities close down at the theme parks. Most hotels offer a shuttle every 30 minutes or so until the parks close. However, the rooms were clean and spacious, the staff was friendly, and we were even granted a late check-out for 1pm, much later than a normal check-out which was very much appreciated.

“Bed Bugs”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

I stayed in this hotel the end of January 2012 and the first night I awoke to find bed bugs crawling on me. When I called the hotel front desk they proceeded to ask me if they were palmetto bugs of course I have no idea what kind of bugs these are or at that time what bugs were in the bed. The hotel security came up and moved me to another room. I was there for 4 days total unfortunately and never actually got to speak with a manager regarding what had happened. Only after I arrived home a week later did I get a call from their ins conpany and confirmed that this was bed bugs. After about a week and a half of being home I started noticing what looked like mosquito bites and they were extremly itchy. I then had to go see a doctor because I was seeing more and more bites appearing daily, little did I know that the bugs lay eggs when they bite you and have an incubation period! Now I may have them in my home!! Beware when staying at this hotel they were not small bugs and obviously they had an infestation, because of the hotels lack of contact with me I would not doubt they are still infested!!

On behalf of the DoubleTree by Hilton at the Entrance to Universal Orlando, please allow me to reach out to you regarding your recent stay at our hotel. We take every report of bed bugs very seriously. The health and safety of our guests, along with cleanliness of our hotel are top priorities. If a guest reports that he or she may have found bed bugs we take swift action. We immediately place the room out of service and contact a nationally recognized pest control expert to inspect the room and take the necessary steps to address the problem. We conduct extensive training with our housekeeping staff and have an efficient daily inspection program in place to identify any potential issues in advance, we also use trained dogs weekly to inspect our guest rooms. The “Worlds smallest Hitch Hicker” is a growing concern in the Hospitality Industry which we take very seriously.

I invite you to contact me directly in order to speak about this matter in more detail. We encourage our guests to promptly report any alleged incidents so we can quickly address the situation.

“Enjoyed our stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

My sons and I stayed here for 3 nights in mid-January. The location is just awesome if you are visiting the Universal Studios Resort. We arrived before check-in and were able to stow our luggage with the bell hop and walk over to City Walk. The walk was pleasant, but we took a cab back when it was dark. It was anywhere from $3-5 for a cab from City Walk to the hotel. They do offer a shuttle, which we used once on a particularly cool morning.

Check-in went smoothly, as did luggage retrieval. We were on the 9th floor. The room was very clean and spacious. One wall is all windows, so that could be a little unnerving if you have young kids, but we enjoyed the view. The Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries were a nice touch. The quality of the towels were above usual hotel standards. They were soft and fluffy instead of thin and scratchy. We did not have any problems with noise and didn't find the walls to be too thin. The only negative part would be the pillows, which were definitely dreadful. They were lumpy and flat.

For our next trip to Universal, we would likely stay here again. Getting early entrance to Islands of Adventure is a major bonus and made a big difference in enjoying the Wizarding World of Harry Potter before the crowds set in.

“You can do much better in Orlando”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

First the good things:
- Location is perfect is you plan to go to Universal Resort. Just a short walk and you are there
- Oh, they give you a cookie...
- Several good bars at the hotel

Now the bad ones:
- I arrived with 3 bags... no one helped me with them. Guess how was I able to carry the bags, specially because the staff at the reception directed me to the wrong tower!
- The room was noisy. Everytime someone opened and closed a door at the corridor you woke up jumping
- It is ooooold, outdated, the bathroom has seen better centuries.

“Perfect location for Universal Studios”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Our trip to Orlando revolved around one day at Universal Studios and one day at Islands of Adventure, so the location of the hotel couldn't have been better. It is about a 15min walk from the parks entrance, and there is a free shuttle that runs a few times daily. The double room with a pool view was nice and spacious, if not slightly dated. That said we did not spend alot of time in the hotel itself, though I did appreciate the lovely Crabtree and Evelyn bathroom products.
