“Love the Charm of this Resort!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

Love this resort! I think it is the best vaule of all of the moderate Disney Hotels. You can really feel like you are visiting New Orleans. They really do a great job of replicating the cobblestone roads, and every night you can hear the clip clack of the horses and their carraiges. I also loved the way they designed the building with all of the iron scrolls. There is only one bus stop, so you don't have to worry about a bus coming to you full. The benoits in the food court are excellent.

“Nice, with some caveats”

The French Quarter segment of the Port Orleans resort is nice enough, but don't expect the real French Quarter. Yes, there is a little wrought iron and some Mardi Gras-style giant faces in the food court, but would you ever find a food court in the real French Quarter?

That said, I concur with most of the other positive reviews of this resort: large room, tiny toilet-shower cubicle, very loud plumbing, good beds, good sound isolation from the outdoor movie, etc. I would add one fairly small negative--the room lighting was quite obnoxious. It came from too-powerful CFCs in all the fixtures, and lit up the place like an airport men's room. If you turn all the lights on, it's downright blinding. I guess Disney got a bulk discount or something, but since CFCs can't be dimmed, less powerful bulbs would be a major improvement--and save electricity, too.

On the positive side, the checkin process and the concierge service were simply outstanding. There was one glitch in the bus service when we had to wait 40 minutes for a ride to the Magic Kingdom; otherwise no problems with the internal transportation. The shuttle boat to Downtown Disney was a great value. Take advantage of it to find better restaurants than the PO food court.

Room Tip: Building 4 is the closest building to the bus stop. You will appreciate that after 9 or 10 hours of...

“Great location and transportation”

Just spent 2 nights at Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter. My 12 year old god daughter enjoyed the pool. It has a small water slide that children of all ages were enjoying. The rooms are typical rooms. The lobby area leading out to the pool area is under renovations but is not inconvient. This is a much smaller resort than Riverside and only has one bus stop. You often share a bus with Riverside and sometimes will have to wait while the bus stops at all 4 Riverside stops. We were lucky and all but once the bus stopped first at the afresh Quarter. There is also a boat that takes you to Downtown Dsney. Coming back from Downtown Disney the boat stops first at French Quarter and thn continues down to Riverside. I have stayed at both Riverside and French Quarter and enjoyed them both. One of the few hotels at Disney that have their own bus and you don't have to stop at numerous other hotels before going to the parks. Bet value and location. Close to Epcot, Hollywood studios and Downtown Disney. Riverside is larger and has a few more things to do if you have children. Disney now has free wi-fi in the rooms at French Quarter.

Room Tip: Ask for room facing the courtyard. It was quiet but still close to the pool. We stayed in Building 2...

“Hidden Disney Gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Stayed February 3-11, 2012 as a family of four with 2 teenagers. This is a compact resort, as far as Walt Disney World goes. Since there are only 7 or 8 buildings it is not a far walk from any room to all services. I had a room in building 5 which appears to be recently redone. Two queen beds, a flat panel tv, double sink with privacy curtain, tub with shower, mini fridge, coffee maker, iron and hair dryer.
Check in was smooth and mousekeeping was wonderful. The grounds are nicely landscaped with a mardi gras theme. The pool has a slide and separate hot tub. Never waited very long for buses, and a boat to Downtown disney was very convenient. The only downside to this resort is that the food court was somewhat limited in choices, but being Disney with so many other places to eat, we tended to eat somewhere else anyway.
I had placed a food order with a grocery delivery service and bell services had it ready and brought it to the room. They had the cold items safely stored so I didn't have to be there when they arrived.
The had a blow-up movie screen and showed nightly movies on the lawn for the kids at night.
There were three floors in each building with elevators.
Having stayed at a few of the allstars, Carribean Beach, and Riverside, this is my favorite Walt Disney World Resort so far.

“shame about the food”

this hotel was very good for transport to the theme parks and it was also very clean.
the bar was a little bit over priced but so was the whole of disney at 5.5-6$ for 160z pint!!
the rooms were ideal if you only stayed for a few days to a week but as we stayed for 2 weeks the rooms were not big enough.
we did not have enough space to store clothing and not having a balcony made it difficult to dry any swim wear.
the pool was well presented and had more life guards than swimmers some days so it helped to relax when the children were out of sight.
the staff in all areas were great and showed a interest in the children which is what the trip was all about.
the massive downside to the whole stay was the food choices, after 2 weeks it was boring and more than repetative.same breakfast choices every morning, same sandwhiches or pizza every lunch and the same pot roast or pizza every evening and if you didnt get enough of the pot roast on a evening it was shredded and used to make sandwhiches the following day for lunch. add to the fact my wife is a vegi and i challenge anyone not to be sick of pizza and chips for 2 weeks solid, that said when we raised the issue that a distinct lack of protien options for vegi's we were offered turkey!! maybe they grow thier turkeys different in the u.s
it is a carb junkie's dream but not very good for anyone with a desire for choice and specific requirments.

Room Tip: block 4 was very good for access to the pool, bus stop, dining area and the film under the stars.but a...
