“All Star service at value resort”

Don't be fooled by this "value" resort. My 2 year old came down with an ear infection during our vacation and was up all night crying from ear pain. The resort gave me and my son our own room at no charge so that my family could get some sleep. They checked on us regulalry through out the vacation to see how my little guy was doing and even brought gifts, balloons and coloring books with crayons for both my son and my daughter. I was very impressed with their attention to details and surprised that it came from a "value" resort. The rooms were nothing flashy but hey we don't go to Disney to stay in the room! The beds and pillows were AMAZING! Could not get over how comfortable they were and actually found myself missing them once home!!!

“Everything I Needed in a Disney Resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

There are three "All-Star" resorts at Disney... the Music, Sports, and the one I stayed at, Movies.

I selected the All-Star Movies Resort based mostly on price. I've always been more of a value traveler when it comes to hotels. I primarily use them to sleep, shower, and change clothes in. So as long as the bed, bathroom, and walls all work properly I'm usually good with it.

When we arrived the woman at the front desk was very pleasant. They had us listed as a 2 Double Bed room, but I had booked a King Bed room. I mentioned this to her, she made a phone call and about two minutes of back-n-forth later we were all set with the king bed. She explained all the amenities, directions to navigate the resort to our room, and all the info we would need to make our trip as easy as possible.

We were then shown down to the Concierge to deal with out Park Tickets. She explained that, since I purchased through Expedia, I would need to go to a will call window at any of the theme parks to retrieve our passes.

So we made our way to our room... We we in the Mighty Ducks section of the resort. It's separated into movie themed hotels... Mighty Ducks, Fantasia, Herbie The Love Bug, and 101 Dalmatians.

Being a lifelong hockey fan it was a small bonus being in the hockey themed section of the resort.

The room itself was completely adequate in size and functionality. The bed and pillows were comfortable at night, it did have the stereotypical "heavy comforter." I don't know why but a lot of hotels I've stayed in have had very heavy comforters. I'm not really a fan of them. The toilet worked, the shower and sink had consistent hot water when needed. All good.

But I really have to commend them on having thick walls! There was easily a few hundred, VERY LOUD, 15-year-old girls from Brazil and Argentina staying at our resort... along with a few competitive teen dance troops. But when I was in the room, you'd think the place was empty.

The pools were all themed to their corresponding section of the hotel. For instance, ours was painted like a hockey rink with Goofy playing goalie. The Fantasia one had Sorcerer Mickey on top of a rock hanging over the pool, shooting water fountains into the pool (much like the movie).

We watched the Super Bowl on Sunday night and got night caps all the other nights at the Silver Screen Spirits Bar, across from the Fantasia pool. Our bartender, Nicola, is an extremely friendly English woman (don't be surprised if you think you're seeing her waiting tables at the Rose & Crown in the UK section of EPCOT, it's her twin sister). The drinks were very well poured, just strong enough, and for Disney standards pretty cheap too.

Our intention was to head over to the Magic Kingdom, after the Super Bowl, to take advantage of their "Magic Hours" (stays open late, til 1am). But we were informed that the will call windows would be closed and we wouldn't be able to get our tickets until morning.

So we grabbed a few more drink at the bar, chatted up some people there, played a few games at the arcade inside the resort, and called it a night around midnight.

The rest of our trip went by just as easy as the first day. The automatic check out meant we didn't have to deal with that on our last day. The Disney Magical Express passes were dropped off at our room on the last morning and they even checked us in to our flight, printed the boarding passes, and dropped them off as well. Completely painless process.

Now are there perks or luxuries in some of the higher end Disney resorts? Absolutely... but I wasn't looking for them. This one had exactly what I was looking for, so I'd be more then happy to stay here again in the future.

Room Tip: Ask for specific bed style in advance...

“Had it's pros and cons”

I work in quality so here are my observations on a whim.

Checkin:
We flew in on a West Jet vacation- and originally our reservation was for Allstar Music. We arrived a little late and proceeded to check in at Allstar music.

Issues:
It seemed as though at that time our pre-online checkin line took longer then those that did not pre-check in (I thought the purpose of online pre-checkin was to get through faster?).

Once we finally go through we found out that they made a mistake and we were really to be at All Star Movies- and that they have given us an upgraded room (which was not so I am not sure why they would need to lie about it- rather just admit to their mistake?).

She then quickly gave us a package anyways- with zero explanation other then we could go to our rooms and a van would pick us up and take us to Allstar movies. She was not pleasant with us for whatever reason.

While all of the other kids got balloons- pins- etc.- our kids got nothing here - nor when we registered at Allstar Movies. Nothing....which was embarrassing to my little kids whom it was their first Disney experience- saw kids getting these things/attention- and got nothing.

We then had to wait for a van to pick us up and take us to Allstar Movies- this after our entire day of travel.

Once we got to Allstar Movies - I looked through this unexplained package (no explanation of meal plan, and they even forgot to give us a park/meal card for one of our kids! Poor service at Music- terrible actually).

I approached the desk at movies as I was clueless as to how things worked. The lady did do a better job explaining things- gave us the missing meal/park card- but still didn't think of our kids (no pins or balloons or welcome). I felt like I was still missing information. By this time I was really exhausted and missed out on an evening when we could have been checked in and swimming (as we did checkin online prior).

When we arrived to the room- we found out that we did not have our luggage! Apparantly it was lost in the mess with Allstar Music- and only 1 of 2 bags was even tracked- and they apologized again for the bags beign late. So we spent the night worrying. However, they were able to locate both bags and send them up the next morning.

When we got in our room (again not an upgrade and if it was - I do not share the opinion)- all was well except for some long black hairs in the bathroom (that were cleaned the next day).

Room:
Despite the first night when I noticed the hairs- the cleaners did do a good job in tidying the room, making cute arrangements with my kids stuffies, little towel characters etc. Other then the first night the room was cleaned nicely each day.

The room was smaller then expected- and average.

As we were always at the parks for the entire week so really it didn't matter- and this didn't really bother us.

Phone:
I made a 2 minute call to Canada- I was charged $26!!!

Wifi:
No wireless wi-fi- only at the other disney resorts.

Pools/facilities:
We did enjoy the 2 pools- although we wish they were heated a bit. The grounds were very clean and tidy- very nice gardens / manicured bushes / trees etc. It looked really nice walking around the area and they did a great job making the place look good. The playground was fun for our kids too.

Cafeteria:
CRAZY busy seemingly at all hours of the day/evening. Coffee line in the morning was incredibly long- so we often would forgo any breakfast and eat at the parks. They did their best to keep up with the people- and were friendly servers- but just too few of them to keep up with the demands (or too few coffee dispensers in the morning- I believe only 2).

Buses to parks:
Very well organized and easy travel to the parks.

*while this may sound mainly negative- the experience at the parks was amazing and made up for it. It's just unfortunate that the service (wrong reservation, temp lost luggage, terrible service at Allstar music- lack of explanation of anything - not providing enough park/meal cards etc.etc.).

Room Tip: Choose to get a room close to transportation to avoid having to walk a long way to get on the bus.

“Good place to stay, if you don't plan on being in your room much...”

My husband and I stayed at Disney's All Star Movies Resort in September 2011. This was our first Disney vacation. The whole experience was great. The best part was the Disney Magical Express! We knew not to expect a luxury hotel room, however we think the beds could use some work! We had 2 full size beds, for just the two of us. It was very uncomfortable sleeping in the same bed together. We wish they would have placed us in a room with one king instead. Luckily, we were on the go from sunrise to midnight every day, so we spent very little time in our room. We would most likely stay in the same place again despite the sleeping quarters, only because the price is right.

Room Tip: We would probably call ahead and make more of an effort to get a king bed next time.

“Magic is there, but lost in the crowds!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

The buildings and decor are fabulous. The rooms are perfectly fine for a basic hotel room. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom clean. When you are at Disney you generally don't spend a lot of time in your room anyway, so why overpay for a place to sleep and shower. My problem was with the crowds. There are A LOT of rooms in the half dozen buildings that dot the property. All of these rooms share the main building and its services which include the quick service dining court. We visited in mid-January, which should have been a below average time as far as visitors. There was not one morning we spent in January when we were able to find a table to sit for breakfast. The coffee was always out with lines of people waiting for refills. The buses were servicing all three of the "all star" resorts, so wait times and travel times were long. I will say the staff was wonderful, as you expect from Disney, and went out of their way to accommodate our needs and keep everyone happy. Next time though, I'm going back to one of the moderate or deluxe resorts where we've never ran into the crowding problem.
