I was in Orange Park for the closing on a house sale and was unable to stay in the house for the final week while the estate sale and cleanup were going on. InTown Suites was within 2 miles and looked OK from the street. It had a sign showing rates from $189.99 per week, which beat even the Red Roof Inn. So despite the bad reviews I asked to see a typical room and decided to stay there. You do pay in advance. If you pay cash, make sure you understand how the refund of your deposit is handled. All in all I was very satisfied with the value. The room is basic, but bigger than most hotel rooms. There was a stain on the carpet and a cigarette burn on the coverlet and another on the couch. There are no non-smoking rooms. The pillows were misshapen and lumpy. There was no bedside lamp. BUT there was a full size refrigerator with two ice trays, a stovetop, a microwave, a working television, good shower, fine air conditioner, free parking and WiFi advertised (though I didn't use it). The linens on the bed consisted of a thin sheet and a coverlet but were clean, as were the floors and bathrooms. The towels are thin, but they do an adequate job and dry quickly. The front desk staff was helpful. The other guests were a varied lot, but not unpleasant. I was bothered by noise from the nearby laundry only once, for about a half hour. Bring your own pillow, or buy one at Walmart for $10. I took a bedside lamp from the estate sale and it made a huge difference in the ambiance of the room. Go to a yard sale or Goodwill and get yourself one, plus a glass, a cereal bowl and whatever utensils and pots and pans you need. There is a Publix about 1/4 mile north where you can get juice, milk, cheese and microwaveable meals, and a good Greek restaurant even closer. I ate all my breakfasts and several suppers in my room, a considerable savings over going out. You too can save a bundle even if you have to pay 4 bucks to use the coin laundry. Gee, what do people expect for under $30 per night?
