my wife and i stayed at the howard johnson in 2008 and it was great prices were 49.99/night they had restaurant we had a room right by the pool fridge microwave, but this time my son and i stopped in and the place was 79/night no restaurant and the staff lied to me about the ramada in acroos the street was booked and no rooms under 89. i went to the ramada inn and got a room for 59 that night and 49 the next they had a bar n grill and the staff was wonderful. i don't know what expeience others had but this place is huge and it does need alot of fixing up but the yankee owner does not own it now an indian guy does and he is in need of people like myself to get this place back on its feet. the room was great the beds were very comfortable rooms were cleaned and the staff was great. we were glad we stayed there because it brought us good luck and my son met a very nice girl there.

I booked my travel to Ocala, Florida through Amtrak. I was able to book my hotel stay and rental car as well right from the Amtrak website. Unfortunately, the Ramada as the sign says outside, not the Ramada Inn as some of us may be used to, was obviously a shell of its former glory days. Legend has it that the late George Steinbreiner used to own this hotel, so as you enter the hotel lobby, you will find a showcase of New York Yankee jerseys, caps and other memorabilia. That being said, when I opened the door to my room, the room was less than inviting. The room and decor immediately showed its age. The closet used to have chrome railings which were now very rusty and unappealing. The bathroom tiled floor looked unclean and the shower and tub were unsightly. The soapdish was broken so there was no place to put your soap. Fortunately I always carry my own soapdish. Then there was the issue of the 4 non working ice machines. Although there was an ice machine very close to my room, it was not working. There were also two others which I walked to one day which also were not working after I trotted across the courtyard of this hotel to find those locations. I had to take the long walk back to the hotel lobby, (all of this walking is outside in the Florida Heat) everytime my family needed ice. My son killed cockroaches on 2 different occasions in our room while we were there. There is no wifi in this place, (I don't want to call it a hotel, because it isn't). There is continental breakfast, which consist of the same things everyday. Pancakes and waffles in a warmer tray, 2 different types of cereal, 2 different types of juices, orange and cranberry. A small assortment of danishes, bagels and english muffins. Coffee, regualr and decaf were probably the only thing that was o.k about this place.

As a frequent traveler this was one of my worst experiences. From the condition of the handicapped room (we did not ask for handicapped) to the way our complaints were addressed, created an awful night. The reason for handicapped room - there were no other clean rooms. This was not mentioned at check in. There was no hot water - a pilot light problem. this was not explained at check in. When my husband discovered there were no tissues in the dispenser they said the only thing they could do for us was let us go to another hotel. It was now 9 p.m. and we were too tired to leave. This was the only hotel we ever stayed that charged and extra $10 if two people were in the room. A horrior and dirty place.t.

Do not stay at this hotel! Our room was very dirty. It had popcorn and sunflower seeds on the floor when we arrived, there was a very large dead bug on the bathroom floor, the toilet was dirty, the complimentary shampoo and conditioner were almost empty and we had only 2 towels for 4 people (they did bring extra when I called, but why should I have to call?)
