“Great winter vacation resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We stayed for 4 nights in Feb 2012. The staff at the registration desk are excellent.
The room we had had been updated. The screened porch was a nice way to end the day. The pool was heated and clean with plenty of chairs and very good service. The breakfast buffet was very good...the service a bit slow most days. Service at the Crow's Nest in the evenings was also slow. The beach across the street was easily accessed. It would be nice to not have to pay to use the cabanas. We collected shells and enjoyed the sunsets. The 1st evening we saw the dolphins. We would go back.

Dear ACAgo,
Thank you for staying with us at Tween Waters Inn Island Resort and Spa. We are very glad that you enjoyed your experience and thank you for sharing your review with others. Our pool is actually heated in the winter and cooled in the summer geothermally which is much more efficient and environmentally friendly. We keep the temperature at a very comfortable 82 degrees year round. I would also like to point out that we have just placed an order for all new pool furniture which will give the pool area a refreshing new look. We expect shipment in about a month. I do apologize that you experienced slow service at breakfast and in the Crow’s Nest. I did observe a slight backup during breakfast seating this morning. I have a meeting scheduled with our AM breakfast staff this afternoon to discuss a few new ideas that I have to make our seating process more efficient. I will spend some time in the Crow’s Nest this week to see if I can observe what you experienced. As for the fee we charge for the cabanas and sea side chairs I will offer the same explanation that I have in the past. The fee, in addition to helping keep supply and demand in balance, (I am sure you can imagine what our beach would look like if we had to provide beach chairs for each of our guest)also helps offset the cost of the equipment and staff who monitor the beach and have to set up and remove the equipment each day. We have never charged a resort fee and we feel the cost of running the beach service should be allocated to those who what to use it and not the resort community as a whole. If anyone has a suggestion on how we could modify our beach program please feel free to contact me directly to discuss. Thank you again for staying with us and we look forward to your return.

“Great for a Short Break!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We have been going to Tween Waters Inn for a few years and visited again last week. This 'resort' enjoys a fantastic position just south of the heart of Captiva. There is an active marina for Kayaking, boating etc and then there's the excellent beach if that's what you want. The hotel also has a good selection of activities for those who look for that kind of thing. We tend to eat out at different places, but the main restaurant here, Old Captiva House, seemed to enjoy a good reputation.
Overall, good value. If we were being picky - the two main accommodation blocks overlooking the bay could do with an upgrade. The cottages are the place to stay, but of course are the priciest.
We'll certainly stay here again.

Room Tip: The blocks overlooking the pool on the south side are fairly new and modern.

“Lovely week at Captiva Isl”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We want to go back! Following the reviews, we took a chance and it was definitely a positive experience. The room (we got upgraded to a suite) was perfect: clean, furniture in good shape, and a wonderful king sized bed. The bathroom was large with two basin and a walk-in shower, not the bathtub, but larger sitting tub. The screened-in porch was in really good condition. The room was so comfortable that it was like living at home (without the snow!)

The only issue was that the a/c did not seem to be working, but at this time of the year, a minor inconvenience. There are huge ceiling fans and keeping the porch doors open solved the problem.

They do have internet connection, but it is not really high quality. It will run a smartphone or ipad for small amounts of data, but don't expect video.

Pool is heated and there are two hot tub baths. Lots of chairs near the pool along with a grill and coffee shop. The beach is across the street. Again, a bit annoying that you have to rent cabanas but the sand is not coarse that a couple of blankets wouldn't do.

Breakfast is the cold buffet (fruits, cereals, and bakery good). For a discount you can get a hot dish, such as eggs. It looked good and the price seemed right. Staff was not always there for service, especially if very busy.

Grounds are well kept. They are doing a lot of painting and fixing, especially in the suites (four were being totally redone). Cottages seemed to be freshly painted.

Room Tip: Tip: Unless you are specific about cottages, they do not have a "gulf view", and then it w...

Mr. Pickwick,
We look forward to your return visit and thank you for taking the time to share your experience with others. Let me also thank all the other reviewers who have encouraged guests, like you, to stay with us based upon their reviews. We are glad that you enjoyed your accommodations and you were able to experience our brand new coffee bar at the pool featuring illy gourmet Italian coffee and espresso drinks. We appreciate your comments about out wireless service. Our current system is about 7 years old and was not designed to handle the number of handheld and portable devices that connect to our network during peak times resulting in dropped connections and/or slower speeds. We are in the process of updating our wireless internet service which will greatly improve our Wi-Fi capabilities. I also appreciate your comments about the fee for the chair rental at the beach. The fee for the cabanas and seaside chairs helps offset the cost of the equipment and staff who monitor the beach and have to set up and remove the equipment each day. We have never charged a resort fee and we feel the cost of running the beach service should be allocated to those who what to use it and not the resort community as a whole. Finally, many of our cottages do have a gulf view and enjoy a truly remarkable sunset from their screened porch. While we cannot always guarantee a specific cottage (unless you book 7 nights or more) we can guarantee a gulf, bay, or courtyard view based on your desires. Please call one of our onsite reservationists for more information. Thank you again for staying with us and we look forward to your return trip.

“Enchanting”

Our favorite place to "hide". We stumbled upon Tween Waters Inn in 2005 while searching for a place to enjoy our first family vacation that was quiet, tranquil and a place our daughter could enjoy the sunshine, shells, sights and sounds as much as us. Seven years later plus 2 more kids - we've just enjoyed our 3rd trip to Tween, and are already trying to plan for next year. If you're looking for high energy, long lines, chaos and huge crowds of "happening" places - this is NOT the place for you. This review will be lengthy - but I can not leave anything out, as we simply love coming here and I believe the little things are what matter most. First there's George - gotta love this guy. He gets you to your room and monitors all traffic coming in/out of the resort. Always sporting a smile and friendly conversation. Also you get a reserved parking space for your room. Our room was clean and they also made sure we could have the same room we requested from our previous trip. Met an owner upon arrival from New York (didn't catch his name) - but what a friendly gentleman. Everytime we ran into him and his wife he went out of his way to ask how we were doing and if we're enjoying ourselves. We had a bay view room - which is our absolute favorite. Love to watch the boats come in/out and listen to the soft ripple of water. We were lucky enough to see the manatee right up by shore in the bay this time as well as dolphins too. Which brings me to the Marina and Harry (I think that was his name???) This man has it together! Listening to him guide these big boats in was so facinating - he certainly has many years of experience and is so pleasant. We also took a shelling excursion thru Santiva Saltwater Fishing Team - having Captain Rob McKay as our guide. This is always the best part of our trip. Our kids absolutly love him. He is so knowledgable about the islands and the history that goes with each. He totally captivates our kids (and us too!) about wildlife, plants, shells and much more while we're spending time with him. You must not pass up a shelling or fishing trip with Rob. The Old Captiva house is where we get breakfast each morning. They provide a complimentary breakfast buffet of fresh fruit, pastries, cereals several different juice choices, coffee & tea. There is no way you can leave hungry from here. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. The two women and the man that we had greeting us there were wonderful people and so very accomodating. Remember what we like each morning without even having to ask. Had a great conversation with a young lady running the gift shop one evening. It's amazing how the staff remember you from previous years. She is a gem - and Tween is lucky to have so many wonderful people staffed there. Out on the beach at the gulf waters - there is always someone patrolling the beach to be sure only Tween guests are enjoying the beach. This may seem rude to some - but we LOVE how private they keep their beach. You're not towel to towel on the sand. It is always quiet and peaceful. Even when families have their children out there - everyone has their own space and never seems to crowd one another. Simply wonderful and peaceful. Almost forgot the pool area. We ate at the Oasis Pool Grill and the food was so yummy! They also now have a towel loan program. And they are really nice plush beach towels - not the tiny white ymca towels...ha! This was a great feature as it allowed us to keep our personal beach towels dry for the beach. Our kids loved the huge pool - but honestly - it was hard to enjoy the pool when there's this great "natural" pool across the road. The crab races are always a hoot at the Crow's Nest, unfortunatly we missed them this year, but do check them out if it's your first time there - it really is fun! I think I've covered almost all the areas at tween. I'm sure there are some I'm missing - but these were our highlights. I can't wait to go back again - and we are hoping to make this an annual trip. Tween is the best not only because of their friendly staff - but the location and privacy of the place is first class. I would like to be selfish and keep this place a secret - but it's one secret that is just too good to keep to ourselves. Thank you Tween for yet another amazing trip. Your staff is so pleasant and we look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Thank you Nicole S for your wonderful review and description of Tween Waters Inn. You have touched on so many things that really does make this resort a special place to visit. The property is very much about enjoying a “laid-back” island experience with caring and attentive staff present to ensure each guest’s stay is just what they were hoping for. Staff such as George, who is so very strong and capable while truly being happy because of his opportunity to serve his guests, is exceptional. Harry, who utilizes his many years of previous experience as a tour/dinner cruise boat captain in assisting vessels safely berth at our Marina docks, shows the care and capabilities that is focused towards assisting our guests create lasting memories. You also wrote about Rob McKay and your fishing trip with him. He, as well as several other guides that leave from our docks, are so successful in creating a unique experience for each of our guests who charter with them. There’s something pretty special about simply taking those few steps from your cottage, suite or guest room to the Marina, boarding your captained boat and heading out for a day of fun and excitement on the water surrounding Captiva Island. By the way, Rob also docks a small fleet of rental power boats here at the Marina that are terrific to personally explore our local waters.

I agree so much with you when you said Tween Waters is very lucky to have the terrific staff that we do. And their life experiences are all so interesting. That young lady at the gift shop probably was Vilda – she was born in Haiti and grew up in the Bahamas. A Tween Waters employee now for several years she recently purchased her own home inland. Oh, in her “spare time” she attends college – and is pulling great grades!

We, like most every other business, spend considerable time, effort and money in marketing and promoting our business. However, it is comments such as Nicole S’s that truly tell our story. Thank you again for your marvelous description. We will look forward to your next return visit!
