I spent a weekend at the beach retreat in Casey Key last weekend. The location is perfect, right on the canal and very close to the Gulf of Mexico.
We brought our kayaks and a friend showed up with a boat and another with a jet ski, we were able to kayak to Snake Island, which gives you a nice sandy bottom in knee to hip deep wading water. You are about a 5 minute paddle to the gulf, the Jetty's and the beach from that point.
There are two popular eating and drinking spots close by, Pops and the Casey Key Fish House.
The fish house has great food and a fun outside tiki bar.
The pool at the beach retreat was nice also, the room was comfortable and had all the amenities needed. You may even get a chance to see Beggar the dolphin, who is a dolphin that chases the boats and looks for scraps, as well as take a leap off the bridge on the way to the boat dock, which is just around the corner from the Beach Retreat.
Sit out on the patio in the provided chairs and watch the sunset or walk across the road and enjoy the drum circle and watch the sunset from the Gulf beach.
I will certainly be returning and spending more time at teh Beach Retreat in the near future.
